Brake groan?

I have a 98 Maxima. I bought it used last year and it's my first car. Due to my inexperience, I am not sure if I should be worried about this phenomenon that I've been noticing lately: whenever I came to a stop, and if the brake pedal was not pressed all the way down, a low, stuttered noise would be heard for a second or two coming from the front end of the vehicle. If I took care to press the brake pedal down firmly, however, there would be no such noise.

What's the deal? Should this be a concern?

I had this -- your pads may be wearing out...
check 'em out if you can.

its kinda like the brake squeal.. it means time to change your pads.. you aer hearing the metal part of the pad touching the rotor

Ahh the famous brake groan. It happens when you creap very slowly with your foot on the brake. Sort of like a deep moan with a slight deep frequency to it. Some pads are more prone then others to make this noise. A few guys including myself run Metal Master pads which seem to produce that groan very easily. A more organic pad should make that go away.

I don't think it should be of any concern, just make sure you have plenty of pad there.

No problemo...

As long as it's a low pitched sound it should be fine. But when you get a high picthed "screeching" sound... means you need to change your pads.

Great choice with buying a Maxima.
