Directional Tire Mixup

I have Goodyear Aquatred 3s on my Max. I jsut got a new one on my front right wheel and I think it was installed backwards. The tread pattern does NOT follow the other three tires. How much of a problem is this?

Re: Directional Tire Mixup

This is a pretty big problem you should have it changed as soon as you can.

Bring it back to the people that installed it for you and tell them to fix it.

Or. . .you could spend the $30 for a remount/balance on those two wheels.

Problems with mounting directional tires the wrong way:

1) Poor tread wear
2) Unpredictable/unstable handling
3) Poor wet/snow performance (hydroplaning/loss of traction)

Hydroplaning's the really dangerous issue here. On a directional tire like the GY Aquatread, the tire sipes are arranged in a vector pattern that sweeps standing water on the road surface away from the center of the tire, allowing the tire better contact with the road.

When the same tire is running the opposite direction, it has the opposite effect: it channels all the water to the middle of the tire, greatly increasing the likelihood of hydroplaning.

Gange: Take the car back & have them remount & rebalance the tire correctly. This is serious.

If those 2 tires are on the same axel, then all you need to do it correct this is swap sides. (left to right)

THe tread is designed to tread water out of the tire, if you have it the other way, it could be treading it in toward the tire.

Just look

Just look on the tire. Next to the 225/50/17 etc. their should be arrows that indicate which way the tire is suppose to turn. Are these pointed the wrong way???

KWheelSB is 100% right...

At one point all of my tires (which are directional) were pointing in the wrong direction. I had a good amount of vibration at low speeds, and when it rained the car felt uncontrollable. A week after the service where they improperly rotated the tires, I looked and saw the dirction arrow pointing whe wrong way. Fortunatley I could just swap around my wheels and everything was good.
