is there anyway i can increase the low end torque on a '95 maxima SE?, a lot of the mods out there work best at high rpm, anyway i can get better pick up at around 2000 rpm?

Why would you want to do this? The maxima is definitely not lacking on low end dept. If you think it is. You may have a problem with your car. If you have an automatic, there isn't much you can do. The stock torque converter stalls at 2k rpm.

 

i have a 5-spd manual, it's actually is pretty slow at 2000 rpm, although it really starts to rip it once you go beyond 3500 rpm, so i was just wondering if i could get a bit more kick uot of it at low rpm speeds.

one more thing, i wasn't sure wether to put it on a different thread or not but can i put 03 maxima 17 inch wheels on my '95?

 

What conditions are you talking about? Highway driving? Drag racing? Regular street cruising? Is your car stock?

 

yeah, it's stock, i'm talking about regular street driving, with all the stops and go's, the maxi kick *** on the highways anyway

 

Get a aftermarket y-pipe. That's a mod that will give you more power all around. But It's not going to change the power curve. Like Lime said. You need cams for that. It's just a characteristic of the engine.

Supercharger maybe. Turbo would be even more annoying, you have to wait for it to spool.

 

turbo does sound good, but it's going to be a pretty big hassle to put it on since you have to insulate some parts of the engine, plus, i dont have $3k to put on a turbo, i thought about supercharging it, but that also costs around $3500.

 

There's ample low-end torque in the maxima...it gets a lot of praise for that. It may not be comparable to an SS, and it might not feel like say....your typical automatic 3800 GM ride, where most of the grunt is down real low in the powerband (then left gasping anywhere else), so I don't know what you're used to or what you were expecting, but...I admit it's not exactly powerful getting up to 2000 rpm in the max, but it doesn't take long to get there, and 2000+ is where the fun starts.

Like others are alluring to, I'd just look for the usual mods & focus on those that don't take away from the low-end. I think that's about the best you can do. If you want a lot more, I think you need a big-engine domestic

Keep in mind that the OEM 17" rims are SIGNIFICANTLY heavier than the 95 OEM rims. If you put them on, you're going to take a pretty significant performance hit and it will "feel" like you have even less low-end.


Better performance conflicts directly with larger/heavier rims.

 

I think you should look in to getting a complete tuneup for your car. It's a 95 and mayhave lost some of it's original zip. Replace your fuel filter, change the oil and oil filter, change your spark plugs, clean your throttle body, use some fuel system cleaner.

 

hmmm, i'll look into the throttle body issue, although it has 139,000 miles on it, it still runs great once i go beyond 3500 rpm, but i'm not really sure how it's supposed to act below that, i can still take off in second gear even if it's on a hill (so technically it does have power) it's just pretty slow.
