Problem with high rev idle
Problem with high rev idle
I just installed a CAI on my 95 Maxima SE 5-spd and now the when I come to a stop and push in the clutch the idle is at 1200 rpms or so for 20 or 30 seconds and then drops to the right idle of 600 or 700. Does anybody know why this would be? Also when I am on the freeway the engine is running higher. Before the mod I was at 2800 rpms in 5th gear doing about 80 now it is 3200 rpms at 80? Any help would be appreciated.

Since you have a 5 speed, if you were turning 2800 rpm at 80 before the CAI, you should be turning 2800 rpm after the CAI. There is no relationship whatsoever between the CAI and the rpm at any given speed. Also, 2800 rpm sounds pretty low for 80. 3200 rpm sounds more normal.
The only time your rpm should start to increase at the same speed (with a manual transmission) is when your clutch is slipping.
Check to make sure the CAI isn't catching the uhh, wtf's it called....the line onto the pulley which is used for acceleration, if you give your car gas, and look into the engine, you should see it floating around...make sure that's clear....ive heard of people having that stick because of their cai, and getting into accidents

Thank you for your help. I just had the clutch replaced so I know it is not the clutch, also the throttle cable is clear. It doesn't happen all the time. Also, my check engine light won't go off. I check the code and reset and it comes back after 2 days or so. The last code was 5 long and 5 short. I don't know if the ECU is bad?
