I was thinking of adding a y-pipe to my 97 SE, but i don't want any problems passing N.Y. emissions insp. anyone with a y-pipe please share your experience with it and inspection. also, is there a significant difference in hp with the y-pipe(can you feel the difference? i already have a pop charger)
One more...just wanted some opinons on an exhaust, i dont want anything too loud and offensive, some suggestions?

I can't help you with NY emissions, but you will definetly notice a power increase. For NA tuning, the ideal most-powerful-yet-not-too-loud setup is: intake, Y-pipe, RT cat, and stock exhaust. An aftermarket exhaust will be really loud with the other stuff.

Don't forget the Stillen B-pipe. I am going to go with Stillen Y-pipe, RT cat, and Borla Cat-back. I'd go with a Cattman Y-pipe, but I haven't seen one yet that wasn't cracked after 8 months.

I have a 95GLE with the Stillen Y-pipe and

I passed the emissions test back in January, way below the NYS thresholds. Some people had problems but others have no issues concerning emissions.

As long as you let the exhaust system

thoroughly warm up before the emissions test, it should be OK. The y-pipe eliminates the pre-cats, which are meant to be effective only when you first start the car (and the main cat is cold).

FWIW I had no problems passing in Georgia. (y-pipe + RT cat + stock exhaust).

I know that people in CA have passed no problem with the Y, and if you can pass in CA, you can pass anywhere in the nation. . . Just make sure it gets warmed up before the test is what I have been told.

Non issue, passed in OR with Budget Y and rusted cat-back. Have Greddy SP2 now, still don't think it will have issues. Y-pipes are the best bang-4-buck on 4th gens...

I'm the guy who doesn't appreciate the randomness of Google searches and expects to find clear, concise and correct answers to all my questions on the internet.

If Al Gore built this thing, it should work properly!

Or George should send in his people to fix it!
