Transmission Oil Question

Hey Guys,

My Maxima is leaking transmission fluid. I have a 1998 automatic SE, and the transmission has never been flushed either. It is the problem with the bearings, but I just can't get that fixed right now, however a mechanic will look into it this weekend. Right now though, I will be on my way to school in about two hours. I need to add tranny fluid, but don't know what kind, and the type of viscosity. Please let me know, or maybe I should just call Nissan.

Also, since it hasn't been flushed yet, I am not sure whether or not I should use synthetic in there.

Please hurry, cause I still want to get to Autozone. Thanks.

Get dextron 3 or equivalent. Dont get synthetic. If your tranny needs rebuilding i have one that works perfectly that can be used as the core.

Transmission Oil Question

Hey Guys,

Oh Man, I have to admit that through my stupidity, I could have easily ruined my automatic tranny. Not because of that leak, since it has just started recently and is minor, but because I have never checked my tranny fluid ever since I have got the car. I know that you can call me stupid, but I only put on about 2,000 miles a year.

But to get to my point, as soon as I left my house just a couple of minutes ago, I stopped at autozone. I bought a quart of Dexron3/Mercon Castrol automatic fluid. As soon as I put that in, it is like I would be driving a differnt car. Nadir, I don't know if you are reading this thread, but thank you man. Right from the moment I poured it in, that whinning sound has completely gone away, and I have a whole lot more acceleration. Not only that, but my rough shifhting points have faded away, and did I mention how well it has accelereated? I am telling you guys, if this did not happen, I probably wouldn't even check the tranny fluid.

So my advice for you guys is to learn from my stupid decisions, and always check your cars.

I just hope that I haven't taken out too much life out of my transmission
