97 Auto - 96 5spd conversion questions

Any problems with converting from a 97 Auto to a 96 5spd??

I know I'll get a CEL - do any of you people who have converted just unplug the CEL until you need to check codes?

Also, has anyone ever figured out the Reverse Lights problem completely?

It's late, and I'm too tired to search - I've answered enough n00b questions in the past - I get to ask them sometimes....

So if anyone has information I should know, please volunteer it....

Also, this tranny I'm looking at has 107,000 miles on it - anything I should be deathly afraid of?

You should have NO problems when converting your car, granted you have all the right parts at the time and they all function correctly. When you are through with everything, and you are using the AUTO ECU, you will get a CEL, but it is nothing to cry over. I just throws three codes not related to the new 5-speed. But, if you get a 5-speed ECU, all CELs go away.

As far as the reverse lights go, that is an easy fix. Go to this post: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....se+AND+neutral .

With a high mileage manual tranny like that, I would definitely rebuild the differential bearings. My manual tranny has about 70k on it, and the differential bearings are shot. So, while it is out of the car, and easily accessible, I woul re-do the diff bearings.

Good luck with the swap, if you need anything, I am here to help you. I have done 2 swaps so far, with 0 problems. Just PM me if you need anything.....
