I got my @SS handed to me by an OLD Eclipse... :-(

I know this thread is probably going to be locked... but I just wanted to say how much it sucks to own an auto.

I just got my @ss handed to me by an OLD Eclipse (It was the really old body style, probably early 90's). It was in a double turn lane next to me, and I had my music up loud... I figured it was going to be slow since it was old, and it had a hood that didn't even match the car (I thought it was all ghetto). But when the light turned green he started to pull away from me, so I floored it. I had no chance. By 60 he had almost two car lengths on me! I could hear his engine reving even over my loud music. So I gave up, since the speed limit was only 40 and there are always cops on that road.

My auto sucks. I wish I had a 5-speed.

Uh?

1st gen GSX Eclipses can be made to as low as 10 second q/m's. (low 12's are a little more accurate, buuut .. How many Max's here run that?)

You're lucky you only got beat by 2 cars.

and in the case that racing threads are still locked quick, IBTL

Oh, man... I had no idea they were so fast. Oh well, guess I won't waste my gas mileage next time.

Ya its true. You want speed? get a DSM. My buddy is building a 1990 talon to do 9s, and its his daily driver. It was mean before when it was doing 13s, now he is just nuts....

Eclipses are like Mustangs

Dirt cheap to make quick, but even if it is quick, no one relly cares.

Actually the earlier ones were the fastest. they can have AWD or just be fwd. CHeap and easy to mod. I wouldn't feel bad about that loss.

Always worth racing one. If they're fairly quick you can have a decent go. If they're done up, you've got a fairly good chance it'll break down before you finish

I know a guy with a 300ZX TT that intentionally ignores the outside look of his car so he can smoke other cars that are asleep at the wheel, thinking he has a wreck. He has removed the "Twin Turbo" decal from his rear deck, doesn't wax the car, no body kits, nuttin. Just a Stillen sticker on the rear bumper is all there is to give away all the mods he has done under the hood.

You know that a modded eclipse can run 13-14's right? And a heavily modded one can run 9-12's right? Unless you're pushing boost you ain't going to be beating one if the owner know's what he's done.

My bro has a REALLY built 2nd gen gsx. It's currently getting a race motor put in and a roll cage cause he's already hit 11s. His last run was 11.9 @ 120. That was with a FP Red turbo, custom fmic, 3"ic piping, Tial bov, tial 40mm wastegate, etc... and only 17psi. After he gets his motor done and tunes the boost to 30psi, he will own the track.

I remember this one time I was with him. We raced a Mercedez clk55 AMG. We killed him by like 10carz. AT the next light he said"Nos sux huh??" Then my brothers like,"No nos, it's called turbo lag" This guy was like huuuuuuh?!?

Those first gens are indeed the fastest..they have a bigger turbo than the second gens...my brother has a '92 GST 5spd and I have a 95 SE 5spd...we raced a while back up until 130mph and we were right next to each..within a foot!..when one of us would shift we would fall back and the other would gain about a foot until the other had to shift..it was that close unbelievable....This was when we were both stock..except I had 17" Wheels and a Sound System in...I know for a fact that a 1st gen can get about 3-5 psi boot from removing some of the honeycombs from their stock mass aif flow sensor!! It's said that for each psi you gain=7hp!

Dont feel bad you lost...those cars ARENT slow + i know that you can mod one for appoximately 600 dollars to run 12 secs in the quarter mile.

Maybe it was a carbon fiber hood...
