put stock airbox, ypipe, and cat back on...much quieter :)

I just put back the stock air box, ypipe, and cat on the car. I had a Frankencar intake, Cattman ypipe, and WSP test pipe on there. I did this because I want my car to be more quiet. Plus, I might sell the car at the end of the year. So with those gone, there will be less to remove and sell by then. Initially, I wanted to get a 2k+ muffler, but the Apexi WS exhaust is quiet enough without an aftermarket ypipe and test pipe. So I'm going to keep it like this for now. You could hardly even hear the exhaust when cruising on the highway, and it's still pretty quiet on the street. I like it, I like it a lot. Of course with just the exhaust as my only performance mod, the car is much slower. That's ok though because even when I had those mods, the car wasn't that impressive. Darn automatic! I hardly even race anyway, just some spirited drive on the highway from time to time. I do have Don's VB mod. Strange as it might sound, I noticed the shifts are more firmer. I could even feel it at the 2nd-3rd gear shift, previously with those mods I didn't feel it. Weird. Overall, I'm happy that I done this.

Even though I want to get rid of this car and get another car now, I just couldn't because the lack of funds. So I got to keep the car for at least to the end of the year, maybe more. Even if I end up keeping the car, I'm not going to mod it anyway. Not really worth it IMO.

I did the same thing:

Had a Stillen POP charger, and replaced that w/ the stock box and a K&N Filter, and had a Apex'i WS, replaced that w/ the stock cat back. Not only do I have better Fuel Mileage, I have better response on the bottom end. Wierd.

Oh well, stock is NICE N Quiet. Welcome back to stock Cumalot!

If you still have those parts, would you be interested in selling them?

I thought much like you all regarding the power of the stock intake vs. the Stillen cone. I had my car dynoed yesterday and the Stillen adds power all across the band. NO losses in the low or mid just gains. Not flaming, just stating what my car witnessed. I'm back to the stillen now even though I'd prefer the quiet stock intake.

Even though I think I'm slower now, I don't think I lost that much. My buttdyno tells me that I'm just a bit slower than before. However, I don't trust my butt. Only way to tell for sure is to take it to the track. My best with those mods was a 15.4, not too impressive I know. I'll find out next week.

For the other guys: yes, I'm selling the intake, ypipe, test pipe, and springs. Check out my thread in the 4th F/S Forum. There are potential buyers for the intake, test pipe, and springs. No takers on the ypipe yet.

Deezo: yes, I'm sure. Just not really worth it spending all the money on the car. Plus, I got more important things to concentrate on such as finishing school.

That's cool. I had to take my priorities seriously so that I could finally buy mods. Good luck either way.

I have been driving like this for a week now. I'm really enjoying this. Car is much quieter and call me crazy, but it seem like the car is running more smoother. Even the VB seem to shift much better, crisp and firm shifts. No lag so far in downshifting either. Of course, it's slower right now that's for sure. I'm not complaining though. Make the car more enjoyable. Hm...maybe I will keep the car afterall, maybe get some rims and even a kit too.

With the stock springs the car is very comfortable when cruising but take it up to 90 or 100 and it starts to lose its stability. I'm really due for a drop to get rid of the float of the stock springs.

Yeah I know what you mean. I already order a set of Eibach springs. I just can't stand the wheel gap. Problem is that I have stock struts on now. I replaced my blown Koni struts with a set of used stock struts. I couldn't afford new aftermarket struts just yet. The Eibach and stock struts combo should be ok right? I had Sprint springs, they were just a bit too much, didn't like them at all.

Guys like me would be compelled to say, "Yea, but that's 90-100mph...how often do you take it up there?"

For me I think the max has gone over 90...once, in the year and a half I've had it. well, once on the track too...had to spank a Spec-V real quick (I must note, on the track, the suspension really isn't an issue...but I did feel very uneasy on the one speed test I did where I got to 100 on the hilly highway).

Of course, some .orgers make it a point to bury the speedo needle 5 times a day.

Cumalot - as an all-stock guy I welcome you back to stock

Thanks. You're right, most of the times I don't even get near past 90mph. Each day going to and from school, the fastest I would go is about 80mph. I used to drive much faster, but thought better, it's just not worth it. What am I'm trying to prove right? Only today did I drove past 90mph in quite some time. I took about a 100 miles trip to pick up a package. So on the open highway, I couldn't resist to push it a bit. Well, I wouldn't really say I push it that much because I only went up to 100mph, that's it.

Man, I remembered putting the Max back to stock. Then I sold it. Sad sad day.

The car would only go so fast...

Man, I'm glad i wasn't in your car when me and Dennis came up to "The Pike" when we made that video.

I'm still shocked at how well you faired against modded maximas back then.
