Critter living under my hood did some damage!

Well I left my Max sitting for a couple weeks while on vacation and some rat or something was hiding out in the engine bay. It must have gone by the time I popped the hood but it tore the edges of the firewall insulation to make a nest in the passenger fender cavity and ****the worst part**** it chewed up the insulation on the wires that go to one of my coil packs!! It almost completely chewed up the blue wire, just before the connector. There are maybe 3 small gold strands of wire remaining. Do I need to replace the entire harness or just splice in a new connector with wires? Is that an important wire in that group?

Thanks.

LOL i remember reading an old old thread about animals living underneath ppl's hoods.

As for the wire, sorry to hear that... i'm sure you can splice it. Don't get another harness until you've spliced it. Make sure u insulate the electrical hack job tho. Good luck!

My neighbor had rats hiding in the engine bay for heat. They ate through a bunch of wires and his 02 Hyundai Sonata wouldn't start. The dealer said it wasn't covered by the warranty... you didn't want to be there when that fight erupted. At the end it got fixed under warranty... the head mechanic suggested to leave mothballs in the engine bay to scare the rats away. Anyone else hear this suggestion?

aNIMALS

I worked on an old 200sx one time and found a nest of frozen baby mice in the glove box. When you turned the AC on it blew out leaves and grass into the car.

and i was thinking of the snake too. i'm thinking of putting some mothballs in there for good measure now. but..are mice and rodents really deterred by mothballs??
