replacing "check engine" light
replacing "check engine" light
Hi,
It seems like the emission people are out to get me. When I tried to go through emissions the first time, they told me I had a couple sensors not working. So I fixed them and this time around they tell me that my check engine light doesn't work. When I went to the dealer to get my MIL recall done, they told me that the actual led for the check engine light is broken and wanted like $200 to replace it. Sorry for the ramble, but this brings me to my question.
Has anyone replaced the check engine led before? Is it very hard to get to it and should I be able to do it without too much technical background?

You might be able to get in to there and change it yourself in 15 min:

I think my CEL bulb is burned out too. I just bought the Max and didn't realize that it was supposed to come on at startup. Looking at this pic of the back side of the gauge cluster, which bulb is for the CEL?

Thanks,

Thanks for the info guys. I was able to remove the dash without doing anything to the steering columns using instructions from that webpage. It turned out that the bulb was missin all together which is very weird.
The good thing is that I saved myself at least $85. Going along with the theme of many posts today, the dealer is worthless. I called them back after they had looked at my car and the sales rep told me the whole ECU would have to replaced. Good thing I turned to the .org first.

I just finished replaced my dead CEL light with one from a junkyard cluster. I noticed AFTER mounting mine that theres empty sockets for the Gear Lights, P,R,N,D,1,2. Now If I put bulbs in there, willl they work??? I really dont wanna go back in there just to find out they wont work.
