All aftermarket Ypipes remove emission equipment (pre-cats) and this is probably illegal in every state.

However if you leave the main cat in place your car should pass inspection if it is warmed up first. The only way you would fail a visual inspection would be if the person knew the Maxima had pre-cats in the first place, most cars don't. Don't go to the Nissan dealer for your inspection sticker and you should be fine.

assuming that your state does emissions testing....

Or rather assuming that your town does emissions testing. Harrisburg and philly test their cars, but here in west bumble**** they could care less.

What about if you have a y pipe and a high flow Cat and a catback exhaust. would you still be able to pass emissions like that?

Does the aftermarket y-pipe throw any engine codes? Here in good ole Texas, the only emissions test they do for 96 up cars is check your obdII for engine codes.

No,not in Houston that I know off.I toke three of my family cars 96 and up for inspection and they only plug the OBD2 connector in for a few second and if there is no CEL or any code you will be pass. They stick something into the tailpipe only if the car was pre 95.

Up here in Arlington, they stick that probe up the tail pipe of 95 and under cars while they have your car on a dyno/ treadmil and test it at speed Some places don't even have straps for the dynoes, and some places have even launched a few cars.
