Old school ignition?
Is it possible to swap out our distributorless coil ignition with the "old school" design. The reason I ask is I want to boost the spark power but don't want to destroy the ever-so-expensive coil packs. I figured that it would benefit when I supercharge the Max, and improve combustion efficiency. If I am completely backwards on this one, please explain to me the fundementals of my err. thanks

I think you would benefit far more with Nissan's electronic ignition system than with a distributor type ignition. Electronic Ignitions can easily fix problems that mechanical distributor systems have, namely retarding timing upon engine knock (important if you're going to S/C), and advancing the timing precisely. Not only that, but there's no distributor gear on the VQ, it has been completely redesigned from its distributor ignition days.

i messed around with this in the days of bullding high HP bike engines...we tried all kinds of Wells and MSD stuff...all with little if any gain, and more often caused more problems...i'll just say that the Japs have "spark" all figured out. What is in the Maxima will be just fine with anything you can through at it....you may need to play with plug types/heat ranges if you do some kind of turbo/SC/NOS mods, but otherwise, distrubutorless ignition gives a pretty hot spark.
