knock sensor
knock sensor
I have a ECU code of 0304(Knock sensor). The code is alone. Is this possible or is another code needed to set this off. If it is possible, could it be the knock sensor gone bad, or a bad connection/cleaning? Thanks much.
I had the same problem before error code for knock sensor. but after I replaced the knock sensor another error came up. the coolant temp sensor.
So I might try to replace the coolant temp sensor first. Its cheaper.
Your knock sensor might be working just fine.

knock sensor
Hey,
I ordered a knock sensor, too (from Express Auto Parts for $107). I just received it via UPS. I was alarmed to hear/see the part just moving loosely around in the box. There was padding, but not enough to keep the part itself from being tossed around inside the shipping container. I don't know if the part will be damaged by all this or not. Anyone here advise me to return it for another one?
Anyway, I was getting the 0304 code by itself, so I decided to spring for it. Hope I'm not replacing a part that doesn't need to be replaced...

knock sensor
I ordered the knock sensor from Express Auto Parts on Tuesday morning and i just received it today (Friday).
I'm just worried about the fact it was put into the box loosely. I guess I'll find out if everything is ok once I install it this weekend.
As for your order... If you haven't received a tracking number yet, I would call them. Their phone number is 212-590-2448 (it's on the shipping invoice they sent).
Hope that helps...

Make sure your engine is running ok and your using Premium Fuel.
Reset your ECU and see if only the KS code comes back. If the KS is indeed bad, the code should come back in a day or so. Watch for any other codes that may be associated with it. If you reset again and get the KS code, then it's probably safe to say it's bad.
If your engine pings or knocks bad, your KS will produce a voltage outside the acceptable range. That will set the KS code but does not mean it's bad. It's alerting you to a more serious problem. Thats why KS codes come with o2 codes. Bad o2's can cause ping and knock. Be sure your problem isn't ping or knock before you change the KS.

knock sensor
I just replaced my knock sensor today with one from Express Auto Parts. It was a bit of a pain, but I did it.
The toughest part about it is trying to get the bolt to unscrew. Once you get past that, it's pretty easy. Get a telescopic magnet, like I did, and you'll be much happier in the end (no bloody hands)
As for the "U" clip on the knock sensor harness -- use a very small flathead screw driver to get that puppy off. But be VERY careful. If you apply too much pressure, it can break the harness.
Also, I used a 3/8" Ratchet to tighten the bolt onto the new knock sensor. I just hope I didn't overtighten the thing. I pulled on the ratchet until I couldn't pull anymore.
All in all, it's easier than changing the rear spark plugs in my opinion. If you can do that, you can do this. Just have to have small hands & lots of patience.
