Auto VS Manual

I've never driven a manual transmission car..is there an acceleration difference etc..so if you put a stock stick, and stock auto side by side the one with manual would be further ahead, or is it just a matter of prefrence?

Yes the manual will win. by a lot. Almost a second faster at the 1/4 mile if driven well. Both have 190hp and 205 lb ft at the crankshaft but the 5speed gets more power to the wheels becuase their is less drivetrain loss. Plus you control the car's shifts.

The Manual is faster then the auto because of the shift points. Manually shifting can make a longer shift then the Auto shift does. They dont have that torque converter. So when our auto shifts at wide open trottle at about 6000 RPM, They can shift it at redline at 6500 RPM for a longer shift, which in case, makes them just a tad bit quikcker. Now stock vs stock, with a Person who can DRIVE the stick, Will beat you, but not by much. You wouldnt get BLOW OUT in the race, but you wouldnt beat them because of the manual. You can also Manually drive the auto, but in most case, it doesnt help to much, just a little bit, because even if you shift at redline, it still takes that one second, to actually SHIFT into gear. Manually it shifts as soon as they shift it.

I shifted mine @ 6650 every gear & still got smoked by 5speed maximas at the track its not the shifts that kill autos... and my tranny doesn't take one second to shift...

auto's gear ratio sucks, if they have the same ratio as 5speed it'll be a lot closer on highway/in third. once auto hit third we're screw the gear ratio gap is too big

I believe thats true too because this generations automatics are closing in closer to 5 speeds. autos are not that far behind.

umm...no
its not the shiftpoints that makes the difference.
i can shift at 6000 in each gear and still beat an auto shifting at 6500.
as TheMax95 said, its the difference in drivetrain loss between the torque converter of an auto to the flywheel of a stick.
manual puts more power to the WHEELS, which is what counts, not the CRANK.
it would take an absolutely awful driver with a manual to lose to an auto.

Actually, the auto gear ratios don't really suck, it's just that it doesn't have enough of them, like the 5 speed.

What I really meant was that its nice to be able to go to the track and run low 13's (hopefully 12's this year) by just changing the tires and hitting a button.

Then, bring it back home and Monday morning the wife takes it grocery shopping and its a 15 sec car again.

so the torque converter is where the loss occurs, hmm..?? do they have like performance torque converters for the 4th gen, and if so, how much hp gains at the wheel and crank can be expected from said converters..??

how do u get to 90 without hitting the 70 spot

yeah about 85~ it starts picking up & pulls hard again, but I cruise at 70 on the highway everyday, whenever I floor it doesn't do much till 80+ 5speed will be around high 4000s rpm in third and pulling hard
