factory heated seat elements?

Does anyone have any information regarding factory heated seat elements. I have been searching for weeks now to try and find out if you can purchase just the heating element from a nissan dealer. I would assume you could but I am not sure. I have a factory Nissan Service Manual and in the section regarding the heated seats it makes refrences suggesting you can replace the elements. My 99 gxe doesnt have heated seats but I want them bad, I figure if I can get the switches and the elements I can wire them up myself. The problem is that my nissan dealer is relentless to help me find any information. They didnt want to spend the time to research the information I needed. I contacted other dealers and they have told me that you have to buy the whole seat if your heating elements go bad and that there is no such thing as a replacement heating element. This to me doesnt make any sense. Has anyone had a bad heated seat element and end up having the elements replaced or any information which would help me find what I am looking for.

Thanks

There are aftermarket heating elements available but I think that taking the seat covers off and replacing them is a huge PITA.

I assume you have cloth seats, you could just keep an eye out for someone who has heated cloth seats and is upgrading to leather. That's how I got mine, possibly my favorite mod.

$300 for one seat and you still need the switch. I bought a full set of heated used heated cloth seats with switches for $200. If you do want to keep your seats you are probably better off with aftermarket elements I just did a quick search and found this - http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/afcarseathea.html ~$270 for two seats and switches. I am sure there are others out there and you could possibly find a group deal somewhere. Sombody tried to start a group deal here on aftermarket elements but it didn't fly. If you search the group deals section you could probably find the thread and more info.

I doubt a junkyard would let you pull a seat apart to get just the elements so you would probably have to buy the whole seat. I am pretty sure that heated cloth seats are pretty rare but if you like leather perhaps this is a good time to upgrade.

Thanks

Thanks for the helpful information. I have already looked at and bought a set of aftermarket heaters. I sent them back, couldnt find a decent place I liked to mount the switches and the control units were huge. Thanks for the info from nissanparts.cc I will check into that, I guess I better start filling up my bank if thats what I want.

Thanks Again,
Seth
