auto transmission blues. why won't my car start??

i should have never taken apart my max! i installed a new radio in my car, and ever since then it has been doing something really odd. IT WON'T START! i turn the key to go start it, but i just hear "click" and my clock, my radio, and dash lights turn off, and then when i let go of the key (like when we let go of the key once the car is started) everything comes back on. so i got mad and just for the hell of it i moved my drive selector into reverse, and then back into park again, and turned the key and my engine started!

now my car does this 75% of the time i get into it, and it is really annoying. does anyone know what this is, and how to fix it? thanks.

I think you should remove the panel surround the shifter to check and see if there was anything jamming your shifter. If not then your shifter prolly need to be adjust.Hope this will help.

Chris, I agree with 96_vqmax. It sounds like there may be something blocking you from getting the shift all the way into park. I would take that panel off and check. I see your luck continues

Not sure if the Max has one, but my wifes 92 SL2 had a park-neutral switch that wen bad. Had to do the same thing to get it to start- Move the gear selector back and fro - I replaced it and it never did again - Just a thought- Like I said don't know if the Max has one, but maybe a place to start - Tucker

Oh yeah, the park-net switch is a relay like device that tells the car when it is in park and net. It won't let the car start in any other gear. If it goes bad, the car thinks it's in gear all the time and won't start - tucker
