yea...me too, but since i'm bored i'll give u my personal opinion...

there is a NO BRAND cold air intake kit sellin on ebay for $49, get it and replace the filter with K&N... u'll have smoother intake arm, megaflow cuz K&N filter flows the best... and u'll have around 5-10HP gain... this setup won't be more than $100 and gives u decent result...

or u can go with frankencar, no doubt about tat =)

I find the Frankencar too loud on WOT. Just my personal opinion. I actually like a quiter intake if I could find one.

Sometimes I scare myself..especially in Tunnels or under bridges.

Really, Brian? Is there a difference? I was comtemplating the Injen for my I30t, mainly because I don't have to cut a hole.

why not use injen on the 5 speed? is there a difference in perfomance? according to the "search" that I did most intakes gave the same results. from a newbie perspective its a total biatch searching for intakes.. too many opinions and topics to go through (good thing i have the time at work)...does anybody have a sound clip on a frankencar and injen intake...

A CAI (Injen) adds power to low end, which takes away the lag when u go WOT on an auto. Since a 5 spd doesnt have any lag between the time u press the gas and the time u go you dont need it as much, but it would still be helpful. A midpipe (frankencar) adds power to the middle powerband which would be more beneficial for the 5 spd. I have an Injen on my auto and I love it, it looks good, easy to install, and takes away the auto lag which makes me get off the line much faster.

What do you guys think of making your own intake kit? something along the lines of... http://www.drwebdesign.com/mymaxima/upperintake.html

Has anyone tried it?

Which, in turn, would tell me that a majority of the gains you get with an aftermarket intake would be from the filter you use... correct?

I'm using an APC intimidator that I got from pep boys. Someone did actual test and K&N is supposed to give the best air flow. I don't know if you can feel the difference tho.

I was seriously thinking about doing that, I was in the car to get the parts needed, had the instructions on hand and decided to look under the hood and noticed the hose where he had the breather filter on, and then chickened out... but the good news is that this guy who owed me money finally paid me so im off to buy the injen. Just because im shallow and I can (I have a 5 spd)... but the perfomance is there either way... 5spd or auto

Someone dynoed their car with a K&N and Monsterflow filter. The monsterflow showed about a 2hp gain over K&N. They are worth the money over APC because they are reuseable and they produce more hp gains.

Frankencar. I have ridden in several maxima's with several different setups..I like the Frankencar the best. Nice sound....but I wish it was louder !!!! It definately sounds like a monster at WOT.

you all are post ******!!!

if the intake is loud at the WOT, then whats the point of flooring the gas pedal? never made sense to me. franken car seems docile under normal driving, and roars only when past 3000 rpms.
the difference between quality filters (monsterflow crap not included) is such minimal, that you WILL NOT feel the difference. you cant feel an increase of a few horsepower on a 190+ hp engine. its all in your head! the difference between CAI and non-CAI is also very minimal. for the simplicity of it all, just get the frankencar with a filter of your choice, and drive responsibly!

It not the filter element perse, it weather or not there is a element inside the filter to smooth out the air flow. Without one there is quite a lot of air turbulance. I did not think the filter really matterd either unitll I got an apex-i and yes, acceleration felt much better under WOT.

some more questions.

1. the stillen (high flow intake) appears to have an easier upgrade compare injen (cold air intake), and franken, right?

2. can i upgrade injen intake without the midpipe?

3. is it good to get the midpip from franken, the mid pipe upgrade appears to be diffcult.

STILLEN ---- http://shop.store.yahoo.com/southwes...smaxstil9.html

INJEN ---- http://www.ptuning.com/html/Item-Des...delDesc=Maxima

frankencar ---- http://www.frankencar.com/intakes.shtml

Ok, as you can see in pics...Stillen does not have a midpipe. It's been proven that our cars can retain low end torque that may have been lost if not using a mid pipe. If your searching, also look under "hybrid". The Injen has a mid-pipe persay, but is not called such..it's just longer piping that goes down to the filter. Some people who live in Winter climates prefer not to use Injens product, due to the filter placement. ........From there on, it's just preference. Different filters MAY gain you a hp here or there, and those debates are throughout the "archives".
To answer your question about the Frankencar midpipe upgrade...the only thing I can think of what you are talking about is the new midpipe with the bend in it. This is done to fit the filter more comfortably in the engine bay, and not resting as near to the battery.

is it good to upgrade with franken without installing the midpipe. is it diffcult to install cause stillen looks easier.

i'd get a K&N or APEX. difference in power is virtually null.
