AEM, Injen, or Warpspeed performance are all good brands. If I were you, I would go with a Frankencar Intake so you don't have to cut a hole in your fender. Just my .02.

Get the JWT Pop charger from Avalon racing for $100 and be done with it. The fastest maximas have popchargers and stillen intakes. They are identical but the popcharger is cheaper. Don't bother with all this fender cutting and $200 intake business.

JWT and stillen are both HAI. For a CAI injen, AEM, or the cheapo ones on Ebay. If you want a true CAI, go for the Place racing, but be prepared, you have to cut a hole in your fender wall, and it's a good idea to get a bypass valve with it.

Whats the difference between HAI and CAI?

I'm aware of that. Fact remains that the fastest maximas have them. Odd huh? Coincidence? Maybe.

The difference is that a CAI goes into the fenderwell and draws in supposedly cooler air. This is only true while the car is stopped however, once the car is moving the movement of air in the engine bay pulls in enough ambient air that the temperature difference is negligable.

The true difference in performance comes from the length of the intake tube. the CAIs have a longer tube and thus produce a little more midrange power than the HAI. The HAI gives more top end gain than CAI does.

HAI = Hot Air Intake (I guess)
CAI = Cold Air Intake

The CAI works by drawing cold air from outside the engine bay while a pop charger sucks air from inside the engine bay. A CAI will give you good low end while a pop-charger will give you a better top end. The reason for that is that at higher speeds, a lot of air is being pulled into the engine bay so the air is already pretty cool. A CAI kills the top end because the air has to travel a longer distance to get to the engine. You'll be better off with the JWT intake.

When did AEM start making intakes for Maximas?

If you are going to go the CAI route, then go with Place Racing.

...don't forget that Budget makes a CAI for Maximas - not just y-pipes.

I have both on my 95 5speed (my only engine mods)and dynoed 189FWHP and 192 torque.

Thats cool i'll probably go with the place racing CAI then. Does the weather ever affect the performance because i live in phoenix and it gets hot as hell here during the summer.
