im not 100 percent sure, but i dont think u can install an rb26 without a custom tranny and it would seem that it needs to be mounted straight instead of transversely (watever the technical term is for that) why put an s15 engine in? even with the 250 hp and whatever torque it has the low end won't be the same, try forced induction on the stock motor, cheaper, and probably more reliable than a custom swap of this nature

This sounds cool but y not just turbo your VQ motor, youll get more gains and it would be easyier. But if you got the doe than go for it.

I am surprised that this thread had lasted that long before anyone posted a front wheel drive comment.

Skyline = rear wheel drive

Maxima = front wheel drive

Don't ask...just no, drop it

No one post anymore, this thread is annoying.

It might be annoying to you but he was insulted with the "its just a 4door sedan" when in fact there are four door skylines so there.

this week i was at a yard lookin for 97+ maxima body parts(possible conversion) and i saw a 2k1 maxima engine. from what the guy told me it would fit in my car except for possible harness isues. it was super cheap only it didnt have pistons. i think he wanted 800 for it but it had 45,000 miles on it. if i had the money, i might have taken it and started building a "built" engine for high boost. my engine now already has 109,000 miles on it and i doubt it could handle alot of boost. Its nothing like a skyline engine but im sure it would be easier to fit than a rwd specific engine. Has anyone thought of getting a 2k type of vq30de to put in their 4th gen max. would it be wise to just start building up my engine or start hookin up a second engine to drop in.
P.S the yard wanted 450 for a 98 SE trunk lid with spoiler do i have a right to be insulted or is that a fair price.

Lots of people have thought about it, and then they realized they are retarded because you can make the same power for less money out of a 4th gen motor.

BTW $800 for a motor with no pistons? WTF. You can buy a used 4th gen motor for $500 ready to install. If you want to build a motor that is the way to do it unless you have inordinate amounts of time and money to spend on R&Ding a different motor into a Maxima.

And for the last damn time, JUST BECAUSE A MOTOR IS MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY AS THAT WHICH MADE YOUR CAR DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL FIT IN THE CAR. It would be JUST as easy to stick an LS6 V8 or a Porsche flat 6 into a Maxima as it would a ******* skyline motor.

if you're going for a skyline engine, might as well go all the way and convert the maxima into a 4wd car, it might cost you another $10-$15K, but it would decimate almost everything on the US highways, plus, it wouls be the god of all sleepers

how about someone put in some header spacers to lower compression so the VQ could take like 20psi boost, that would be some MAD power! More things would have to be rebuilt tho. Piston sleeves, new rings, lots of stuff, would have to do some serious computer work with JWT too. but it could be awesome. and oh yeah, you would probably have to build a custom tranny in a stock tranny housing, not TOO hard, but necessary, cryo freezing will not be enough for that kind of VQ power.

If you want to do engine swaps, go buy a Honduh.

You know why swaps are so popular with Honda's? Because the stock engine is never enough. Not so with Nissan.

Why ANYBODY would want to swap out the VQ (ward's 10 best engine for like 9 years now) which has also proven to be VERY capable of handling a ton of boost and abuse is beyond me.

And the person who has enough $$$ to actually create something crazy like that certainly isn't driving a 4th gen maxima....
