Maxima Insurance High?

My insurance company (USAA) has my '98 GLE rated at a 17. This seems extremely high compared to my other vehicles. They cannot give me a reason why it is rated as such. Is anyone else having similar problems?

I had USAA and switched last year. It depends on where you live, but I was told that in the Philadelphia area the Maxima is considered a high theft vehicle, which is why the rates were so high.

Put it this way- me listed as a primary/daily driver for a 21 year old single male for a 98 C5 Corvette costs $1600/year (with good grades disc). The Maxima was $1500/year (without good grades), same full coverage. The only variables that changed: Good grades discount and the car. One of the big reasons I had beef with the Maxima the insurance was wayyyyyy too high for what kinda car it is.

I only pay $750/year for full coverage and I'm only 19 years old. Actually, I am under my parent's insurance plan and my mom is good friends with the president of the insurance company, so he takes care of us. I tried calling other insurance companies to see what I would be paying under my own plan and they quoted me $2000/year for the same coverage and I have a clean record.

For people who don't have a hookup and live near a city, it can get pricey

I used to pay about $1100/every SIX months for my 95 ford probe GT ($2200 a year), well when i switched to my Max in december we had to pay an INCREASE of $160. My max costs me more than my probe (which was a sports car, was red, and was a GT, 3 big no-no's) I believe the reason my max costs me more is because its newer, higher priced and an import (but techinically my probe was, had a mazda motor).

My Max cost me $1282/every SIX months. But granted, this is with an accident on my record (totalled my car to top it off), a careless driving ticket (courtesy of the accident) and a prior speeding ticket (56/35mph). So all in all, im very pleased. Oh and im a 17 year old male

I'm 34, single, and with no points on my record. I asked USAA what the rating was on the Camry and Accord since they are both listed as the most stolen cars in America. USAA said they both were a 13... I'm paying $100 per month with a multi-car discount. There must be another reason.

USAA is too high. Granted, I have two at-fault acidents on my record within the last two years, but with USAA for my Max I was paying $2800 every six months. With Progressive I'm paying $1200 every six months. I would get rid of USAA if I were you, their coverage is no better than Progressive or some of the other insurance companies.

damn.. some of you pay a lot for insurance. I have 2 cars insured with Statefarm - 92 Subaru Legacy (liability coverage only) and 96 Maxima (full-coverage) and pay only $146.00 per month total. 24 yrs old and a clean record. I expect the premiums to drop even further once I hit 25 yrs..

P-: I have it setup where the 92 Subaru is stated as the primary vehicle and the Max listed as a pleasure/occasional ride. This helps a great deal. I mean... it's not like anyone keeps track of how often I use which car etc right.

DAMN!!! I didn't think people were paying this much in insurance with all the quotes I am seeing. I am 24, Single and I am paying $800/6 months with Allstate in Seattle which is a port city with very high car theft rates. Try to go into an Agent when you shop around and Make sure they put all the applicable discounts. Make sure they show you the screen so you know they are applying the discounts rather than them just saying it also.
You can also lower your payments by increasing your deductable. Mine is $500 which is decent I think.
You can also ask them for quotes at the minimum that your state allows also as most of them (insurants agents) give you the average quote or a similar one to your current insurance.

Happy Shopping.

I'm 40 ... Insured with State Fraud and pay $430.00 every 6 months on a 98 GLE. That's Canadian Dollars.. so that would be about $1.25 USD.

thats gotta be the stupidest thing ive ever heard. WTF?! Insurance give DEDUCTIONS when you have air-bags. Your less prone to being more hurt which in turn would be less hospital bills for the insurance company. wtf?!?

Actually, Seattle itself has a very low car theft rate.

It's the suburbs that suck.

I lived in Phoenix for 1.5 years and my old car (which was a POS nobody would want) was broken into 5 times.

Lived in Downtown Seattle for 6 years since and not 1 incident - with that car or the Max....and the Max is alot prettier and more thief attractant.

97 Se Auto. $870/year. No tickets,, accidents. 40, Male, looking for hrny blnd with nice,,,, oops, wrong forum, again.

Also, where I live in N. Ca, they do not offer discount for anti-lock brakes. Does not matter. Airbags do reduce premium though. Side air lowers it a little more. Don't forget to tell them if you have the alarm with ignition kill.

no, as a matter of fact, it should go down. Look on ins companies web sites'...where you can get a free quote, they always ask you how many and what kind of airbags you have, to reduce cost.

I'm 20, under my own plan (with state farm), and i'm paying roughly $200 a month for insurance.

But on my record i have:

(1) written warning - reckless driving
(1) written warning - speeding
(2 counts) Motor vehicle Trespass
(1 count) Motor Vehicle destruction of property
(1 count) leaving the scene of an incident/accident (later dropped)
These all happened 2 weeks before i turned 18, but the ******* cop waited until i was 18 to file all the charges.

After i turned 18:

(1) Speeding ticket (out-of-state speeding ticket)
(1) written warning - Failure to yield at a stop sign

I don't know if the stuff i did before i was 18 is still on my record, i thought once you turn 18 your juvenile record is sealed. But i also took driver's ed, which my ins. company will not give me a deduction for anymore, and i'll be driving (legally) for 3 years now, so that should give me a deduction too.

Man, my dad was complaining that we pay around $1300 a year for both our cars, full covered, he's old and I'm 17 (his 96 GXE and my 98 SE) Good stuff. I got a clean driving record though, and he's been with the company for like 15 years. They're starting to go downhill now, charging us randomly, so we might switch soon.

I've done some more research on this issue and it appears the Maxima is popular with the theives. Check out this link:

Just want to remind everyone that the size of your deductible will drastically alter the annual cost of your insurance. Obviously, you will pay a lot more to have a $250 deductable, than say $1000

I also have USAA and pay about 650 - 700 every 6 months (full coverage) but I'm stationed in Virginia beach. When I was in Cali it was a heck of a lot more. It's all about where you live.

Well, I pay $95 dollars a month on the 99 SE Max and $89 for the 97 Pathfinder. I'm 23 with a perfect record BUT, when I was 19 I had a Saturn SLC (2dr) and I was paying $354 a month for it because it's a sporty car. I am with State Farm by the way.
