I also have the budget y-pipe and I have no metal rasp. Only a slight hiss at higher RPM's, which is just the air flow through the y-pipe at a higher speed. Just tighten everything real good and bend back the little peice of metal hanging by the catytic converter, otherwise the y-pipe will usually bounce against that. Good luck!

if you find out, TELL ME! Theres no way, i mean me and my friend scoured that pipe to find an irregularity, couldnt find didly ****. Were thinking its in the pipes nature. It doesnt sound bad when its floored, only when its making its way down back through the RPMs, and man, do your self a favor...dont listen to it when its cold, lol, phew, rasps worse than a farting civic. Have fun with it!

Yeah, I just got mine yesterday. Mine's not black either. It's
painted a silver colour. Something interesting: the pipe is
supposed to be 304 stainless steel, which the main tubing and
the flex part are, but the flanges on both ends, the piece that
combines the two pipes into one, and the pieces at both ends of
the flex section are not. At least the magnet test indicates this.
Not that it should matter. I'm happy with it. I'll install when
it's a bit warmer out.

i guess it seems budget finally realized it was wasting their time painting them. My batch was probably their last black painted ones, got mine about a month ago. Took it off about 2 weeks later and there was no black left.

I'm looking to get a budget ypipe too. Do you think it's really worth it? I have an auto with Frankencar intake and really want some power gains. Don't care about the sound tho just want some more umph. Do you actually feel the gains from the ypipe? Thanks

so i'm assuming it's loud when the car starts to warm up? and is it all the time when the rpm's go down that it has that bad sound?

no...you cant really hear it...it makes a nice burble on start up. only if you go to the rear of the car can you notice the noise at idle, a nice burble. When i rev it slightly it sounds like an aftermarket muffler, but nice and quiet. Its when your driving when its cold...

Also, mine does that noise when its decending in RPMs, some people dont have that problem. Ive gotten used to it now. My intake makes more noise, the y-pipe just adds some *** noise...where needed...
