Auto: having trouble getting into gear

Lately when I park my car it takes me like 10 minutes just to put it into drive could this be a sign of a transmisson problem? TIA.

One of my buddies was having the same exact problem about a month ago with his 99 max. He'd push the release button down, but it would not shift out of park. Eventually we did take it to the mechanic (my garage ), I looked under the car, and the cable that changes the gears was stuck, so I pulled on it a bit, and it was fixed.
