How good are Nissan OEM brakes?

Earlier today, I went to NAPA to buy the two belts needed for the RVM pulley installation. The guy working their owns a 96 maxima; so I asked him which brakes were the best. He said that he trid cermacis, raybestos quiet stop, and just about everything else, but all squealed after. However, he said the Nissan brake pads haven't squealed since. Does anyone here support this claim. I was thinking of going with Raybestos Ceramic Quiet Stops. Pepboys has them for like $60. Thanks. I would use search, but you know what's up.

Go with the OE
As much as I hate to support my local stealers, OE pads are your best bet.

I currently have a '97 SE, and had a '96 GXE. Both had stock rotors/pads. Neither have ever had a problem with squealing at all. I also don't have a big problem with the stopping power, but like most things, it could be improved. Mine suffered from extreme fade once to the point of easily tripling my stopping distance (my front rotors were literally glowing and smoking). But this was with extremely hard driving, and definitely not the norm (that level of driving). I've read that the reason some pads squeal and OEM's don't is because the material of the rotors and pads are more closely matched, and don't create the resonance or something to that effect. Someone else may know more info about that theory. I think it is mainly just a matter of proper installation; using correct shims, anti-rattle clips, and disk brake quiet (I use Permatex)on the back of the pads. I also like that they are relatively clean, atleast in my opinion.
If I autocrossed, I would look at a better brake kit. But because of the cost, I can't justify the expense right now. Plus my pads and rotors have plenty of life left in them (I had posted a link to a long term Maxima test from a car mag where they estimated they'd get 170,000+ miles from the front pads. But I really don't think mine will make it quite that far!).

You can't beat Performance Friction Carbon Metallic.

$32 at AutoZone

I'm on my second set. They stop noticably better than OEM (when they heat up) and they never make any noise (as long as you install them correctly).

I just installed them on my wife's Altima. I don't know how long they last but they have a 1 year warranty. (I use raybestos quiet stop on my rear & EBC Green Stuff on my fronts).

I've tried Raybestos, Raybestos Quiet Stop and Bendix. All of them gave off dark brake dust and a lot of it, as well as making some noise.
I went back to OEM with cross drilled/slotted rotors and I couldn't be happier. Hardly any dust, no noise, great stopping power.

I have Raybestos Quiet Stops on a 97 SE and 97 I30. I find them to be totally quiet, provide better braking than OEM and about 1/3 of the break dust. I literally clean my wheels which are waxed with a high pressure stream of water. When I did the brakes I took great care to do everything right. New caliper pins, brake pad shims come with QS, CRC Anti Squeal Compound, high temp Synthetic Grease, removed calipers and completely drained them and flushed entire brake system. IMO brake squeal is caused a lot of the time by not doing a thorough job. When someone tells you every pad they tried squeals I look at the mechanic not pad problems.

The Raybestos Quiet Stop Pads are ceramic pads! So I used ceramics. I have about 8 months and 6000 miles on the I30 QS pads. Performing flawlessly! I don't know if you have ever cleaned an I30 wheels, they have 25 spokes per wheel. Being able to rinse them off is a big plus. It used to take me longer to clean the wheels than wash the rest of the car.
