Ok, I went to the junkyard today to drop off my friend's (previously mine) dying Sentra (190k miles, blown piston rings, lotta smoke). While I was there, I asked him if he had any steel rims for a Maxima because I wanted to take an old tire and put it on for a full size spare. Now he asks me what year and I say "any year from 95 to 99 will do" and he's asks again "what year".

I say "it doesn't matter, hell, '97".

then he asks methe trim level.

I say "it doesn't matter"

He goes "Oh yeah it matters".

I say "no, theyr're interchangeable, the only difference is the GXEs came with steel rims and the GLEs came with alloys as did the SEs".

And he's like "well, the offset is probably different"

I say "no it isn't, they're all the same"

Then he asks this dude sitting at the counter "any chance of that?"

the guy says no

he says, sorry, no 97 Maximas.

I think I wanted to kill him just for being a moron. This guy lives around cars and he doesn't know different trim levels have the same rim mounting specs. Arrrgh.

Re: Confirmation

I've experienced the same thing, many times. I'll go to a junkyard for some generic part, and it's always "What year? What trim?" Then they don't have the part for a 95 SE and I'll have to ask them if they have one for a 95 GXE, or a 96 SE, ad infinitum till they finally find one.
