Zip tied shift boot?!

Earlier I complained about my 5sp shift boot being about an inch lower than the ****. Well I took off the plastic part and looked under the boot to try and move it up. There was a black rubber band type thing i tried to slide up, but it would just fall back down. Under the rubber band was a plastic ZIPTIE cut and tied tight around the boot. I'm just going to cut it off, slide the boot up, and put a new one on.

Does anyone know if a ziptie is normal? It doesn't seem to be. What part usually holds the boot up and any ideas why I wouldnt have that part?

I forgot to mention, theres supposed to be- in this order from bottom to top: metal ring then a rubber tube and its held to the boot by a rubber band. do you have all that? zip tie will work if you dont anyways so dont worry.

install your shift **** differently.
i have a momo ****, and if i installed it like the instructions say, it would be high, and there would be a gap between the **** and boot.

what i did is cut the top of the adapter, (so taht it fits on the black rod - not the threaded part) and slid it down then put the screws on. overall, the boot and **** line up perfect, plus my shifter now takes a lower stance. i like it
