car hesitating / missing at about 3500 rpm

My 99 nissan maxima started missing / hesitating at about 3500 RPM this morning. After 3500 it continues to feel like it is hesitating. I just had a 60K tuneup but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Also, the reason I really realized it was I put an intake on today and it would pop almost like the intake was back firing at 3500. I put the stock box back on and it still does it.

Should I get some fuel injector cleaner?

Thanks

Maybe one of your spark plug coils was not plugged in properly. Check those.

I think I may have found the problem. I just looked at my receipt from courtesy nissan for the spark plugs for the 60K tuneup and they are a different part number. They are for a nissan sentra, I went to advanced auto and got some NGK for my Maxima and I"m going to install them tomorrow.

Would this cause my car to miss after 3500 RPM at WOT?
I don't know hopefully that is all that is wrong.

Chances are, that's it. The worng plug gap will make the engine act real funny.

Changed the plugs still happens. I find this interesting though, if I accelerate normally after 3500 it is fine. It only happens at WOT after 3500.

Any ideas?

Since you've cleaned up the plugs, the only other area to look is at the newly installed intake. An air leak somewhere around the intake could be the culprit. Leave your engine running and rev the motor at the throttle body cable in the engine bay. Listen for any rushing air where it's not supposed to be.

check your mass airflow sensor connection. It may be loose. I had a smilar problem last week and the MAF sensor connection was detached.

Did you find out what the problem was because I still haven't figured out what is wrong. I have tried new plugs, check connections, listen for air leaks, and still can't figure it out.

This loud popping only occurs sometimes and from 3500 to 5000 it does it then it stops. Like last night I drove 20 miles and it did it after a little bit. It went away then. It seems like it does it when it feels like it.

Anyone know what this might be.

I don't understand how it just goes away. Is there any reason for it happening?
