I am amazed by my new 5speed....

So I have my 96 SE 5speed for about a week now. Man I love it. I really enjoyed driving my 95 auto. I can't even explain how I feel about my new car I love it so much.

I had a little fun today with my new car. I reved to 2k and launched it on a dead end street. Tires spinning the WHOLE WAY THROUGH first. I hit 2nd, and THE TIRES CHIRPED! That's insane. Is this normal?

you don't even have to be boosted to chirp 3rd

my friend with an ACT clutch chirped 3rd the other day with me in the car..
holy ****, i never experienced this before

i chirp 2nd with no problems, even on a heavily worn clutch with over 100k miles on it..

i have crappy goodyear eagle rsa's (full thread but they still suck)
and sometimes at about 4.5k rpm in second my tires break loose...hehe

first is no problem, you don't even have to launch at 2k rpm. you can launch at 750 and still do it with ease.

One more question. It's a noob question cause I'm fairly new to 5speed. Can I downshift from 5th to 2nd while going 50mph?(racing) what's the easiest way to do it?

as long as when you downshift the rpm's don't pass the revlimiter

i did the same thing when i got my 5sp (onwed an auto car before this) and i went insane chirping gears and spinning all through first. Ive settled down now though. Its still fun though. I wouldnt drop from 5th to 2nd, not gong 50mph anyways, its no use, youd have to shift up to 3rd soon anyways. If your on the highway (50mph or so), dont shift lower than 3rd.

I did almost the same thing as you... I had a 96 Auto, but I bought a 97 5 speed about 2 weeks ago. It is sweet, but it wasn't THAT hard for me to find a 5speed max (one that I liked). I ended up getting one that I had wanted from the very beginning.... with black on black leather. Maybe I just got lucky?

I had a 96 SE auto and it was nice since it was a Max but then I test drove a 5 spd and had to have it. I sold the auto and bought a 5 spd within a couple of months. I will never own another auto

Was home this weekend and finally got a chance to show my dad my car for the first time. He's got a 95 GLE. I gave him a ride, nothing crazy (he's close to retirement..hehe) and he was like wow, this is still 190 horsepower, right?

While I was home, I went out Saturday night and took his car for old times' sake. Halfway there I wanted to turn around, go home and switch back. His car was smoother because of the new tires, but mine was WAY more fun to drive and quicker to boot. And to think I almost settled for the auto b/c of NYC traffic...

And yes, I admit, I stabbed the dead pedal a couple of times looking for a clutch that wasn't there. So sue me.
