Multiple Misfires...

I finally got my codes read and Multiple misfires came up.
Thinking that is may be the ignition coils,(because I got the TCS/slip light with it). I went to my trusty Haynes manual.
How to test an ignition coil.
In the Manual it says to use a multi-meter and put the positive probe to positive (they call #1). And the Neg. to #2. = you should get infinite resistance. Then switch them and you should get a reading but it doesn't specify what.
THE READING I GOT WAS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE.
Ok now either the book is wrong or I have 6 F@#ked up ignition coils. I think the book may have it backwards.
I went to my local dealer to inquire about the ignition coils and he said the 99 Maxima is infamous for ignition coils going bad and the I could very well need 6 coil (probably bull I know) But has anyone here had some experience with this.

Been having the misfire problem too in my '99SE.

Pulled the front side ignition coils this afternoon and was confused by the results in comparison to the Haynes manual as well. I am not too experienced w/ working on cars and was a bit hesitant to try and diagnose the coil issue @ first. After reading some of the posts on this site & reading the Haynes manual on the coil issue & how "easy" it was, I gave it a try.

I didn't get too far... I checked the coils like it says (positive to #1...etc)and got 1.4 ohms when I reversed the leads (+ to #2/ - to #1) too?!?!? Feeling frustrated and pretty stupid right now. Not to mention ****ed off that I am experincing coil problems again. Spent $215 at the dealer last year with the same problem and vowed not to drop another $1k to have them change all the coils.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

do you feel the effects of misfire yet in your normal driving?
i have been advised to let the problem become more consistent which can help you diagnose sometimes. i suppose this is a case where it may be safe to do that. my car popped that code but it didnt come back when i reset. also i had a injector code that disappeared on its own.
as someone said in another thread the system is very sensitive in our cars and sometimes flukey faultiness can set it off
