5 speed gus - crusing RPS ok?

Ok, so I'm new at this, but here's my question -
Just went on a road trip. crusied at 80MPH at 3200RPS for a few hours. Is these too high RPMs for extended driving on the Max?
Is there any way I can get a higher 5 speed gear so the RPMs are lower at crusing speeds?
And why do autos, with only 4 speeds, have lower revs at 80MPH?
Thanks...

Autos have overdrive which isn't actually engaged all the time. It just kicks in whenever needed then gets out of gear and lets the car coast.

No problem cruising at 80, you can do it all day long. I drive about 85-95 if the conditions permit without any problems. That's right around 4000RPM in top gear.

There is no way to get lower RPM in top gear. I think there is a differential that does the opposite though.

I'm not sure why the auto has a lower RPM in top gear, but it only yields a 1 MPG advantage on the highway. I think of it as a good feature. It gives great acceleration at highway speeds without having to downshift.

Last weekend, I drove round-trip Toronto to Montreal (approx. 1100kms)and 90% of that trip was at 130km/h or more. 3200RPM in 5th=130km/h or 80MPH on my car, too.

My car turned 160,000 kms on that trip and it still runs as strong as ever.

I'd be willing to bet that a few hours of stop-and-go city driving is way more harmful to your engine and drivetrain than 9 or 10 hours at a steady 3200RPM.

3200 is just fine. You are just getting into the power band there.
