does anybody know any kind of a universal procedure on how to get the check engine light off in a car. The car particually at hand is a '94 Lexus SC300. I need to gewt the light off. thanks

 

try disconnecting the negative battery cable for about an hour, and turn on the dome light or something to make sure all the power left in the system drains, that resets the ECU on most cars.

yea that helps thanx...but how long do you think it will stay off for..untill the computer notices whats going on

 

It will turn back on when the computer notices the problem again, which could be as soon as you turn on the car, or might have to drive it for a while. depends on the severity of the problem i suppose

 

Trying to sell it??

 

Pull the check engine light bulb out. Problem solved forever. No more light.

 

Electrical tape also tends to cover *check* lights....but looks saucy.

 

or, you could just fix the problem that's causing the CEL to come on in the first place.........
