Who has both MEVI and JWT ECU?

You can buy it from JWT or Cattman Performance. Yes it's worth it. You are SOL though because it won't work in a 99.

Apparantly the code is very hard to crack on the 98+ ECUs.

Same here. I have the Gforce and VI. Kicking myself now. Got the ECU used for a great price, but really wish I would have spent another $300 for the JWT. Oh well, hind sight is 20-20.

The car does haul though. I never really understood everyone's torque-loss complaint on the VI because with the Gforce the car still pulls pretty damn strongly. Just wish I had another 700 rpms.

Requin6 has gone to the track with his combo. I believe his best with just the MEVI was a 14.6@96mph. Now he's running 14.3@99mph <----Lexus GS400/M3 (E36) territory.

I paid $550 for my MEVI shipped back in July and all the parts are brand new (they come in Nissan packaging).

JWT charges a flat rate for the standard ECU upgrade. The standard package includes advancing the timing, adjusting A/F ratios, taking off the speed limiter (if it's there), and raising the redline to 7000rpms. You can have them set the rev-limiter anywhere between 6500-8000rpms for free, but they will tell you not to go above 7000rpms unless you want valve float (not good).

Other ECU packages include a supercharger program and a nitrous program, both of which cost extra.

highest trap but not on fastest ET being 99.34 mph

i bought the VI brand new still packaged in box unopened from a guy stateside for $600 shipped (included $50 Harlan) so it was essentially $550 shipped, and i only waited 3 days for it.

i had the ECU for a week before the VI, and i would recommend getting the ECU first if you can help it. it is a real stop light/traffic monster with the ECU and USIM.

Thanks for the great info Dave and Paul. Paul, I have a couple of newbie questions on this one... can you please clarify what the Harlan and the USIM are? I thought I knew about all the engine mods, but those, I have never heard of and I never had a chance to do a search on those.

The Harlan RPM switch to sends the signal to the vacuum solenoid to open/close the VI. USIM is the standard manifold that comes with the Maxima. In another month I'll be getting on the ball with my VI. I just been too busy at work to get anything installed. I feel left out...

The Harlan RPM switch is the device that opens the VI at whichever RPM you choose to engage at. its one of the things you need to install the VI.

The USIM (United States Intake Manifold) is the manifold that you replace with the VI. the USIM has more torque and midrange power (ideal for stop and go) than the VI, but of course it runs out of steam in the 5k rpm range. that is where the VI owns. you can set the Harlan to open up in the 5k range and use the resonance chamber on the VI to keep your power going instead of falling on its face.

With the USIM and JWT ECU traction was a real problem in first and second gear even under mild throttle. the torque was unexplainable compared to the stock ECU. but with the VI and JWT ECU the torque and power levels are brought back up to where they were with the USIM and stock ECU...the big plus being that you now have the top end beast that was lacking before.

yup mine was brand new, I was lucky and got into Courtesy's fluke deal

I paid 345 shipped, for Nissan OEM parts only, not the Harlan, not the Vacuum Canister and minus a few other parts as well as no cover

I agree. The part-throttle acceleration from idle to 4000rpms (typical street rpms for me) are muh improved with the ECU. From 4000-5000, a big wallop in power is there which is where it really needed it since you end up landing in this range for most of your shifts.

I will say this, I'm finding my car to be a lot quicker now. Even short shifting at 6000rpms feels outright fast. Shifting at 7000rpms in 2nd gear and nailing 3rd is pretty dang amazing. The acceleration in every gear and on every gear change is almost brutal even with a topped off gas tank and 17" rims. It's not quite the sensation like banging the gears on a torque-rich musclecar, but it's pretty close. To have a NA V6 sedan be this quick with so little work is amazing. It boggles me that these cars can be so quick. I just hope my car really is as quick/fast on paper as it feels right now.

Since you have a 98.. No. But if you had a 97, there is hope. Just have to deal with a CEL.

I'm not so sure about this thing with the 95-96 ECU not working in the 1998 Max. My reasoning is this:

A) MardiGrasMax uses a 96 ECU in his 98 I believe.

B) I PERSONALLY used a 98 ECU in my 96 with NO ILL EFFECTS for over a week. I even dyno'd with it, and it dyno'd the same as my stock 96 ECU.

from what i know 96 ecu works on many if not all 97's with no cel or major issues. 98 i believe just has a CEL. 99-2k1 is another story. Right now we are waiting to see if technosquare can crack rev limit code or whatever for 97+ maxima's. They already have one made that works with no issues.

cant you just convert a few wires on the harness to get the ECU to work?

i know with my 98 SE-R, i had to do that exact same thing. it was just about 8 wires that needed the pin position changed on, not a big deal. no CEL either. i have seen wolf ECUs on even 2000 sentras, so i dont see why they cant be used on the maxima.

$426 shipped from courtesy nissan. This was the first time they had it a long time ago. The price has since changed. Got it in one week too. 96 ecu will work in a 98, if you don't mind cels.
