For those of you that have installed an underdrive pully, has the check engine light came on? Mine did, should I be worried?

thanks

Re: Re: Re: Question about ppl with underdrive pullies

My situation has a couple different variables.
1) I had the RVM Pulley installed on thursday.
2) I picked up my car on Friday morning, and everything was fine. About an hour later I noticed that the CEL came on. So I immediatley assumed, that it had something to do with the pulley.
3) Later on that Friday I tried to start the car, but the car was having a hard time starting.
4) I had to physically bang the starter with a hammer to get the car to finally start. Which suggests that there might be a problem with the starter. Probably needs to be regreased?

anyways i'm going to check what codes the cel gives me, and then proceed from there. So at the moment it doesn't appear that the cel has anything to do with the pully.

P.S. does anyone have a link to the procedure on how to check for codes? I did it a long time ago, but i've forgotten. And how much do you have to donate to get the search function again?

thanks a lot for any help.

Erica,

thank you so much for the link.

I checked the belts, and they seem to be alright, I'm in the process of cleaning out the starter gears, and re-greasing. Let's see if that works.

thanks again

Does the pully have a timing ring on the back? Its a flat piece of metal that has a couple of 'teeth' sticking out. The 2k2 does not need it but the 95-01 does, otherwise the 2k2 uses the same pully. Someone in the 5th gen forum spent a ton of money tring to figure out what was wrong with his car unil he relized his UDP did not have a timing ring. If the code is 'crankshaft position sensor' or something similer that could be the problem. I don't see how a UDP could affect your starter in any way though

No problems at all with mine.

Does it have exactly 4 teeth sticking out?
And is the timing ring's diameter the diameter of the pulley itself?
