Is Turbocharging a logical option

Hey, I am completely new to this forum, but this summer I will be in the market for a 96-98 maxima. Naturally, I want a decent amount of power, but from what I know, getting new exhaust, new intake, porting and polishing everything is extremely expensive and does not produce the results that I am looking for. Would it be possible to supercharge or turbocharge the engine so you get a fairly large boost in performance? Or would this be an extremely unlogical step to take?

Thank You!
-Anthony

Regular Exah...

Just getting a regular Exhaust will be a waist, you need a y-pipe, b-pipe and a Good Catalitic and Muffler, Preferably GReddy, This will give a lot of HP probaly the y-pipe +20hp, b-pipe +10hp Catalitic +10Hp and Muffler +7-9hp, Then you get a FrankenCar (+8-15hp) Intake with any filter, If you want Forced Induction, get NOS or Turbo or even SC, Turbo will give the most power and if you spray with TURBO youll be FLYING, O yeah if your an "AUTO MAGIC" youll need a Torque Converter, Vavle Body and the Heavenly Tranny Cooler, With a TURBO you can Crank Boost as long as you have the Correct internals, also dont get any old small turbo, get a BIG A$$ Turbo like a T4 or something, BallBearing Of course, Theres a Turboed Maxima in Chicago somewhere, I saw him Race a M3 and he smoke the $hi* out of it, Any one know who it is??? Its a Black Maxima, i think it was STICK im not sure

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think a new cat will give you 10hp and a new muffler will give 7-9hp on a NA engine.

...or he thinks that if you add a large can to your tailpipe it will be good for 10hp, and stickers representing components you don't have are good for another 20. Y-pipe with a quality intake seem to be getting people around 15-20hp at the wheels...there seems to be little to no gain in catalytic converter mods, and a B-pipe and Muffler help free up a couple more ponies. MEVI intakes also yeild some good N/A horsepower. You would definately be better off getting a turbo setup if you want serious power....drivability depends on the amount of boost you want to run.

You beat me to it, I was going to say something to that effect.

To the original starter of this thread, you can get some good power out of bolt ons, on the order of almost 200whp, maybe 210whp if you decide to get cams. With SC or turbo you can get to about 400whp on the stock internals if you are daring.

HI TheNeoTony Welcome to the forum.

What kind of car do you currently drive? I'd recommend trying to get a 5spd maxima if you can find one. This alone will be an improvement in speed versus an auto of the same year.

If you want a turbo, you can get it right away, or you could mod your maxima and then turbo later on. I think you'll appreciate and enjoy it more this way. I think you'll be surprised with the power of a modded 5spd.

I actually drive a '91 Nissan Sentra! Its automatic.......an awful vehicle. This summer I'm going to purchase a Maxima. A turbo mod would be beautiful, but I guess other mods would be alright too; especially if its cheaper. What would it cost to port and polish a standard 97 maxima engine?

it all depends on where you live, and who you know. I know a guy that i was cool with that told me between $400-450, and another that wanted $1200.

Look into getting a 240SX and then swap in the SR20DET... RWD, handling, and turbo...
