These are really the only bolt on mods that you are going to see some nice gains from without going with spray or boost. Mostly the Y-pipe and the ECU, they are probely the two best bolt on N/A mods you can do. Most others such as a catback will only give you about 5 HP if that. While with a Y-pipe people have been know to see about a 15 HP increase sometimes even a little more.

Yep, I've heard of up to and maybe over .3 second gains with the y-pipe, same with the ECU. So that means maybe more than shaving half of a second off of your quarter mile time. Thats awesome.

Yeah same here. While as people with an Underdrive pulley or catback have said it shaved either .1 or nothing off their quater.

A y-pipe and ECU are really the only mods that will give you any performance and not increase noise. Even an Intake can be pretty loud, after I installed mine, I was driving with my mom and had to merge onto a highway pretty quickly.. she was like "wth is all that noise!" (It used to be her car, so she knows what it originally sounded like). Basically though, stay away from aftermarket cat-backs, you could talk to a local exhaust shop.. they could probably hook you up with something that fits your needs.

Technically they are not legal since they remove the precats which help to control emmisions when the car is cold. But if you let the car warm up for like 20 mins or so you should have no probelms passing emmsions testing.

Stillen,Cattman,Warpspeed, And Budget all make Y-pipes for 4th gen maxima's. And they can all be ordered though their sites. Except for budget which you have to call. A y-pipe will increase noise but not by too much. Not nearly as much as a catback does.

Re: im looking for extra HP

You want to embarass this guy for cheap? Willing to take a small step? Visit the nitrous section of this message board. Nitrous is what you want to completely humiliate this guy.

If you're looking for NA bolt on stuff. You'd really have to get quite a few pieces to make a real difference. I/E/Y-pipe at least. Even then, you won't totally blow him out of the water. You'd probably need, I/E/Y-Pipe/ECU/Variable Intake to really put the hurt on. But it sure won't embarass him like some nitrous.

I gotta go back to the original post... your engine has more hp and more torque, as well as less weight.

Anyhow, if you want to make no noise but be faster, Y-pipe, ECU and UDP are the things to get, in that order. Or nitrous of course.

My mom has a '02 Grand Am GT and I drive it every once in a while and it isn't anything special. It feels very heavy and rigid. The GT model still has 175 hp', thus having 5 hp's more than the non GT model. They're pretty fast off the line due to the torque but since they're not a 5 speed, they're so much easier to beat.
Personally, I hate the car - no offence to GM lovers. I really think that any Max would beat it regardless if it's moded.
By the way, I have a '99 SE 5 speed, which is uncomparable to the
Grand-damn!!

The 2000 Grand Am GT has 175hp and 175tq, and weighs about 3175lbs. The 96 Infiniti I30 has 190hp and 205ft-lb, and weighs about 2975lbs. You have more power, less weight, and a 5spd transmission. If you are losing to a Grand Am it's one of 2 things. 1) Your car has something wrong with it, or 2) you can't drive.

Yep there's something definately screwy because a Grand Am GT is a high high 15-second@87mph car at best. The 5 speed I30 should be able to get a mid to lower 15@90+mph with a decent driver.

Quiet mods?:

Y-pipe
2000+ Maxima muffler
UDP
JWT ECU
Poorman's CAI
MEVI

$1800 in mods, 30+ gain in fwhp and fwtq, extended powerband, no excessive noise, low 14-second performance

ECU

This question goes here as well as anywhere. I've seen an ECU sold by a company called jet chips. They sell it for 399 on their site, and i've seen it sold for 315 at aftermarketperformanceparts.com. Anybody have any info/experience with this product. I'd like to know how it compares with JWT. Also, it appears they make this for all 89+ maximas.
