Just got Y-pipe

I just walked in the door and saw the box budget sent me - It's my y-pipe!!! I barely opened one side and saw part of it...I haven't even taken out of the box and I thought I'd let everyone know. I know what I'm doing this weekend. I barely ordered it last week...that was fast!

good luck with the install...I tried it last weekend, but rusted catalytic bolts stopped me in my tracks...I'm going at it again this weekend with a bunch more tools in the arsenal and blatent disregard for the stock components...

Was it that you had trouble getting the bolts off? I'm going to the hobby shop we have out here and working on it myself but I'll be using air tools. You think I'll be okay?

For me, the front precat's 3 bolts came off, breaker bar style.
2 out of 3 of the second precat's broke. I don't know how to torch
out bolts so i ended up droppin' $125 to get it changed.
If it's rusty, it's not that they're stuck, they're brittle.

$125 to replace the bolts or $125 to have someone install the pipe after you broke the bolts?

I have a queston about the Budget Y-pipe... Do they have a lined flex section? That is supposed to elimaitate buzzing or the "bees in the can" noise. So basicly i could just say do Budgets buzz?

It was worth not having to deal w/it.
I mean, I'll try again on my bpipe (soon) but...

How do you get broken bolts out anyway? Drill?

Yeah, I think you'd have to drill 'em out. I guess it was a pretty good deal then - fixing the bolts and installing it...that's not bad. I'll try it with the air tools and hope I don't break anything(save money for somthing else)...if I do break something I'll just take it to a shop.

The budget comes with the composite catalytic converter gasket, and 2 aluminum compression gaskets for the exhaust manifolds. I think that unless you live in the desert, you are going to be fighting with rusty cat bolts. My plan this weekend is to cut the nuts off with my brand spanky new die grinder and cut-off wheels, and then try to remove the remaining studs with vise grips. I don't think the 2nd step is going to work, so plan B is to cut the studs right back to the cat flange, and then drill them out. I have a pair of hardened stainless bolts and nuts which I'll just run through the new holes. What a PITA this "little" project has turned out to be. Geesh.

echo the PITA - that's what I'm doing this weekend. there's little hope that anything can be done to save the cat bolts, those things are pretty much rust welded. I'm gonig to go ahead and break them, drill them out, then replace with stainless steel bolts. I found the brand "Aggressor Cobalt" metal bits to be very good with tough drilling jobs

my max was down for a week before i could decide what to do about the y-pipe. between rusted bolts and stripped O2 sensors iwas about to go crazy. i ended up taking the cat and y-pipe off as 1 piece and just getting a test pipe

Does anyone have the correct Nissan part number for the converter gasket? The one I got from Nissan does not fit, it was the same one the Cattman sent me too. I'm using my old gasket right now and I can hear it leaking. Please!!!

I'm guessing he paid for the bolts getting fixed too...it might have been the labor on it that cost him the extra $$$

Too bad you guys don't live closer to Budget they install for free. Got mine done today, complete, y-pipe, test pipe, 2 1/2" B-Pipe with DynoMax Resonator and my Vibrant Muffler.

They made new hangars that were rusted off for all mounting points and fabricated ones for my muffler as well.

Jeff and his crew are fantastic plus they didn't break my bank.

They even welded on a bung for my EGT and another for a wideband O2 Sensor without blinking an eye.

Mine came in on the 2th too. Yours must have been with mine when Jody told me she had like 6 to ship out. I was real impressed with the service. I put mine on last night. It's sweet. The car loves to rev now. Nice little rumble from the exhaust with nearly no enhanced interior noise. I get a little whistle at WOT at about 6400 RPM or so, but thats it. Put that thing on man. You'll love it.

The place I would highly recomend is Maximum Tunning in Glen Cove I forgot the link but somone should know on the board. As far as Spring/Strut combo, right now I'm on Eibach and Agx's and about to go to Sprints really soon. Where exactly are you at in Queens because I travel there alot and may travel close to your area?

I'm going to be putting it in tomorrow morning. I can't wait - especially after reading what you wrote...I've heard of so many people's great experiences with Budget's Y-pipe.

I spoke to a good muffler guy here in Rochester about my Budget (still not installed), and here's what he had to say. The problem with the manifold studs are that they are a brass composite that is strong, but very brittle and can snap or crack if you are too tough with them. You can't drill it out too he said. A lot of PB Blast, a blow torch and air tools are very helpful.
Luckily he quoted me $30 regardless of what happens. If he breaks an O2, I'll beat him up or something. Good luck.

Don't get yourself overly excited about it though. You most likely wont notice anything at first. I didn't. It took a few days before the car started pulling hard. Don't get me wrong though, well worth it and you will have great experiences with it!

I agree with this one, the first day or 2 all i noticed was the nice VRROOOM it made, and maybe a little more power after 3K, but now like 4 days later... MY GOD... it definatly rips harder up top and you can feel the extra power so easily. Its my best mod so far
