Heater Motor Replacement

I have a 96 that has a failing
heater motor. Has anyone out there
attempted this themselves? Do you
have to disassemble the dashboard?

Has the motor really failed or has the $30 resistor block failed?

What are you symptoms? No fan on 1,2,3 speeds, but works on 4? If so, then you need a resistor block, not a new motor.

Re: Heater Motor Replacement

The speeds of the fan do not seem to
matter. Here are the actual symptoms:
The motor stops and and starts as I
go over bumps, so I was thinking it
was a loose connection somewhere.
However, even when the motor is running
the output is at a greatly reduced rate
from normal. Maybe it's a combination of
both .I would still like to look
at that resistor block. Can you direct me
to it?
Thanks,
max

FAQ

Check out the 4th gen FAQ thread for info on the resistor for fan speeds 1.2.3.

It's under the glove box, just after the motor. You'll see a plug with a few wires on it on the side of the air box. It could be that device causing your problems. Take it out and look at it. If you see some lose solder joints, replace it or repair it.

Get a voltmeter and see the volatge you have going to your blower motor. One possibility is that you could have a poor connection or some faulty wiring that is reducing the voltage to your blower motor.

Voltmeter = best friend.
