check your ecu to see if it's throwing any codes. i had similar problem and it ended up being my engine coolant temperature sensor. there are many possibilites as to what it could be, but my first suggestion is check your ecu. also, read the faq's if you haven't and all the stickies at the tops of each forum. welcome to the org

i actually had my ECU reset for my milage, but they say that could mess up starting. however the problem was still apparent before the reset. they said there were no codes. so ill check the FAQs. thanks

Clean your throttle body. Mine was doing that for the entire winter. I spent 45 minutes cleaning it and that sucker fires up every time. If your idles are low or waivering, that's a sure sign. I'm getting 4mpg more just from that. Good luck

Hard start solution

If your car has the symptoms of having a tough time to start when cold...but once started everything is fine this is usually the problem;

1. Throttle body needs to be cleaned
2. Engine Temp. Sensor needs to be replaced.

If the car will not start unless you give it gas...and then you see a white dense cloud of smoke come out of the tailpipe after the start this is another indication that you have the problem mentioned above...just a more advanced version of the same problem.

P.S.-to make sure that you don't have a fuel system leak, such as an injector or fuel filter/hose leak; put your key in the egnition and turn it until the radio and all the dash lights come on but the engine doesn't start yet. Do this 3-4 times in a row, each for like 5 seconds. When you do this, the fuel pump is activated every time and builds up fuel pressure in your system. If your system is not leaking any fuel (from an overnight park) you will experience no difference. However, if it is a fuel leak issue, when you do this the car will start right up and then you know the problem is not as stated above (in line 1 and 2,) but more of a fuel pressure/leak problem.

hope I helped,
Gil

I have the same problem only i dont need to give it gas, it just goes (cough cough cough) much longer then i should while i hold the ignition key in the "start" position for a good 4 to 5 seconds intstead of of 2 or 3 seconds.
