Bridgestone potenza RE730. less expensive. longer life. great grip, wet or dry. But thats just me.

 

Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP, look at survey results at Tirerack 'nuff said.

I think they fixed that but oh well.

 

The sidewall blowouts, IMO, was a result of Ford specifying a lower tire pressure than Firestone recommended for it's tire. Combine that with the typical SUV owner (drives like it's a Porsche and never checks air pressure, yet finds it fun to load the truck up with everything plus the kitchen sink) and you've got a serious problem. The blowouts were geographically most frequent in the southern states, which to me, definitely indicates inflation problems compounded by the generally warmer climates. Why didn't GMC recall any of their pickups which came with the same tire? They didn't have those problems. There's much more to the Firestone tire debacle than what the media was reporting.

Over the last 19 years of driving, I've owned many different tires (I average about 60-80,000 kms/year) and the SZ50's are by far the best summer tires I've ever had.

 

The Potenza will have the greatest grip, these things are amazing. The pilot sport is probably a better overall tire, but the price makes my svingter tighten. I went with the potenza due to cost. Just my 2 cents.

 

i have the potenza's and they are awsome. i hardly ever hear my tires squeal going around a tight corner, wet roads are like dry roads, and traction is outstanding. i had the toyo rs4 ($180 for one) and i could make them spin and hear a decent squeal when i floor it, but with the s-03's i can hear them spin alittle bit but after that it just bites in. ( i have an auto ) the only bad thing about them is that when ever i do floor it comming out of a road (dead still to taking a turn) they do break lose and i lite them up... which hurts because i know how much i payed for these and how short of a life they have.

but all in all, they are superb tires... i would buy again.

 

What about the Kumho Supra ECSTA 712's?? Tirerack has them too, and they are also pretty nice as far as ratings, also other members speak well of them, i'm probably going to put them on my SE rims.

NT555 for all out performance and NT450 for great street performance, quieter ride, softer sidewell (smoother when absorbing road imperfections). 555s are amazing IMHO.

 

i will be goin 17s on them + enkei Rs5 wheels =)

 

I had a set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s on my Camry before, and they are a good tire but not a great tire. Best bang for the buck though, so if money is your #1 concern then get these, otherwise I think you could do better (as I hope to do).

I have decided on the Firestone SZ50EP after talking to a couple of people and I did some research on the Mustang forums and the overwhelming majority of the guys who have great 60' times on the track (without drag radials/slicks) use the SZ50EP. Also I have never NEVER heard even ONE negative thing about the SZ50EP. Also they obviously have a longer treadlife than the S03... not to mention $13 cheaper... haha

 

 

i have sumitomo htr+, great tire for the price. check it on tirerack.com
