Why brake pads come RH & LH pads? Are they not interchangeable?
Why brake pads come RH & LH pads? Are they not interchangeable?
hi all,
just finished installing new front pads and rotors on my max. as i proceeded to start on the rear pads, i noticed that rear pads were marked indicating which side (ie LH & RH) the pads should replace.
does anyone know why this is? i thought it didn't matter. actually, i didn't even check on the front pads. should i be worried about this? or does it matter?
btw, i used axxis metal master

My Axxis pads weren't marked L&R
Did you make sure you had the pad with the ware indicator on the piston side of the caliper? That could be why they mark them L&R. You'd get two pads with L, one with and one without an indicator and two pads marked R, one with and one without the indicator.
Without the markeings, and if your not paying attention, some might install both pads with the ware indicator on one caliper.

Out of the four front pads, two of the pads without the metal clip are interchangeable. However, the two with the clips are usually one side oriented, but I don't think it matters, just atleast the pad with the clip is located on the inside portion of the caliper.....
thx njmaxseltd and ramius83!
looking at the pads, looks like i installed the pads with the wear indicator on the outside. is this a problem? the brakes work fine without any noise, but i'm just worried that if putting him on reverse hurts the rotor or degrades braking perfomance. the only reason i change the pads was to get better braking. my existing pads werent' worn out. i just felt they weren't giving me enough braking power.
plz let me know.
