I am a couple of weeks from becoming a proud owner of a 4th generation maxima.
I would like to ask you guys a few questions.

I would like to know the price I should expect to pay, not the blue book value, but a real world price for different models of 96,97,98 Maximas (SE, GLE, GXE), whichever one you can provide.

Replies would be appreciated.

Leo from NYC.

I got myself a deal...

I paid $7500 for a 97 GLE with 51,000 miles on it and a little body damage. After putting $2,600 into it for repairs, it came out to about $10,100. I got it through a guy my boss knew who worked for a credit union, cause the car was a repo. Realalistically, a 97 GLE will run you from $13,000, to $16,000, depending on mileage and condition. Look around.. something good will come up.

Well

In January 2000, I purchased a 96' Maxima GXE with 100,000 miles, yes I typed that correctly, on it and I paid 8900 for it. I thought it was a GREAT deal since the engine was in perfect shape and the interior didn't have a blemish on it. After taxes it cost me 9250, so as you can see, I got a pretty good deal since Maximas last far far longer than 200,000 miles (my dad's cousin has a 90 Maxima with 223,000 and nothing is deteriorating). Just my .02 cents

on December 27,1999...

I bought my 1997 GXE from a Kia auto dealer for only $15,495,one owner, fixed broken power antenna staff, front passenger turn signal bulb had only 39,000 miles on it...I though it was a very good deal from my experience go to another dealer and find a Nissan on the lot or whatever you are looking for a Ford dealer will sell you a Nissan faster and cheaper than a Ford in which he is a dealer or go to a Chevy dealer and get a Honda then when you buy your Nissan take it to a Nissan dealer for servicing so don't got to a Nissan dealer to buy a Nissan try to find one on another dealer lot,Honda,Ford,Mazda,etc,etc.....

I paid 55000 for mine. Whoops that was the benz. Sorry, I think I only paid 14000 for a 1996 SE with 29K miles, in perfect condition.

Are you purchasing from a dealer? I purchased my 96SE 5sp, with 70K miles for 11.2, 11.7 after taxes, etc.. Remember, everything is negotiable. If yo are purchasing from a dealer, about have way through the negotiations, change the price to walk-out price. This number always seems so much larger and they are willing to negotiate more on this. Good-luck.

I bought a used 95 GXE (5-speed)

and I paid $8,700 for it with 54,000 miles. I now have 71,000. I got it at a DEALERS ONLY AUCTION in New Jersey. I got it so cheap cause it was 5-speed and not too many people bid on it. The car was in immaculate condition and the inside seats was very clean. Previous owner was an old guy and took care of it. Total with taxes came out to $9,200.

I paid $9500 + tax/reg at a dealer's only auction 2 weeks ago for a 96 GLE 77K miles, auto, with sunroof, spoiler, custom chrome wheels.
After taxes (CA), registration (had to pay 200 fine because tags were old), change of battery, fixing rear power window (paid 50 bux to a guy to come over here and fix it), auction fee (paid a dealer $150 to take me there + 110 charged by auction) it came out to 11K. Very well maintained inside and out, happy so far.

ABS question.

I am not sure if I have ABS or not.
When I turn the car on, an ABS light goes on for a while. Does it mean I have ABS, or is it just built into the instrument panel on all Maximas?

I paid $9,800 for '95 se auto, but it came loaded with every single option (leather, bose, etc etc) except ABS - it had 98,000 miles on it, so it all evened out to right about 10k blue book - I love it, just kinda wish I had gotten a 5spd sometimes, but oh well. sometimes I am verrrry glad I have auto, most of the time actually.

You've got ABS, SuperTool...the GXE doesn't even have that light available.
