first time at the track and ran 14's
Went to the track over the weekend with some chicago people for the first time in my life..quite an experience
My best run of the day was a 14.723@94.62mph. best trap speed was run with a 14.737@95.69mph I also ran 14.85, 14.949, 14.972, 14.995, 15.00, 15.01, 15.1 and some other times I would rather not share(couple mis-shifts) I have a 1995 SE 5-spd with only a homemade intake and a pacesetter short throw. Just wanted to share. Kiwon. |
Congrats, those are awsome times!
|
if this is the same track that Chi99Limited ran 14.9 i am pretty sure now that its down hill :goofy:

Even victim64 never trapped that high before y-pipe and his car is pretty fast. That track has to be downhill as stated several times. |
I can't say this is unheard of. I ran a 14.8 @ 93mph in Montgomery AL. with only JWT popcharger and homemade midpipe.

WTF? look.. you are going to tell me that a 99 AUTO with exhaust mods runs 14.3? something is up with this track. he ran a 14.7 (the poster of this thread) i am curious as to what his 60ft is. if its anything higher than 2.2 then something is up with this track. and look at his trap speed. Come on.. his traps are way too high for just an intake. where the hell is Dave B when you need a good skeptic :D |

ok a 2.25 60ft ..
so with a 2.0 60ft he is looking at 14.3 .. i don't know what to say.. i guess if Dave B isn't being skeptic i will jst shut up from now on out.. |
he's got a 95 SE, we all know 95s are freaky fast even when stock.
|
guys no matter how messed up the track is, he still ran a 14.7. leave him alone. Thats an impressive time with just intake. congrats!

It's not that the track is downhill, it's the nuclear reactor that is right behind the track. Refer to above photo. It has to have an effect, I left there with 11 fingers.

"optical illusion" Am I going to have to bring out my survey equipment to prove that Bryon Dragway is indeed downhill, at least on the far end? I've done a lot of surveying and I can tell you that picture is definately showing at least a 1+% downhill grade.
The fact that ChiLimited ran a 14.9@94mph in his auto and 2kMax pulled a low 14.7@95mph (first time out) definately shows that this is a quick track, downhill or not. This track is known as a being quick and the conditions that day were VERY favorable to racing. Low 40s, rising baro pressure, and relatively low humidity only made things better for these guys. ChiLimited's and 2kMax's times aren't unheard of, but these are NOT the norm. They're anomolies. If guys expect this kind of performance out of thier Maxima's running on different tracks, they're going to be sorely disappointed. Some tracks are just faster than others. Seeing I'm a complete gearhead and I get caught up in the numbers, I research this stuff. There seem to by about 8 tracks across the nation that post seriously quick times in comparison to the mods of the car (according to what I've seen at CamaroZ28.com, Corral, LS1.com, Maxima.org, ClubSi, New Celica.org): Englishtown, NJ Steele, AL Maryland Dragway, MD HRP Houston, TX Bryon Dragway, IL Sacramento, CA Orlando, FL Fayateville, NC As you can see most of these tracks are at sea level (I don't Bryon is) and most of the tracks are near the coasts. I don't dispute the ET/MPHs people pull on these tracks at all, the truth is they're just more favorable to getting strong ET/MPH due to their location, conditions, and track prep. Take a good hard look at some of the quickest Maxima's in this Org and take note of how many are running on one of these tracks. Dave |
yea my timeslips are on page 2 of my homepage if you guys want to check it out. cool thing was i bet a friend that i can get into 14s that day and so i got a free dinner out of it. i wonder what i would run when i put on pole position s-03. I want to go back to the track again, i think im hooked.....only if the cash flow was good and i can mod my car every week...

I posted in NWNissans a few months back asking for recommendations on tracks - Woodburn or Portland International Raceway.
The reply I got was "Woodburn all the way ... I run .4 quicker at Woodburn that I do at PIR !!!" So there ARE quicker tracks. I guess when it stops raining here in Oregon I'll try to head to both tracks - I've never been to a track so it'll be interesting to see if I can whip up some skeptical times :) |

Kiwon I didn't know you hit 95mph traps, dang!
Here's the thing about the freaky byron track. It looks downhill to me. Downhill=faster times. BUT I ran almost identical times at 2 other tracks (this was back when I had my Y pipe only). At byron my best with Y pipe was 14.46 @ 96.48. AT US-41 my best with y-pipe was 14.50 @ 95.9. At RT-66 my best with Y pipe was 14.51 @ 95.8. The runs at Byron and US-41 were similar conditions, cloudy and about 60 degrees. The run at RT-66 was 85ish degrees and sunny and humid. Mods and weight reduction were the same. My times were within .05 seconds of eachother... |
There was also a 15-20mph tail wind as well that day.
|
I looked at the weather back at jason's place it said winds 5-10 mph. 15mph is a STRONG wind and it would fully extend a flag, the flag was flapping but it wasn't fully extended. Anyhow I've run there with tailwind, crosswind and no wind and my times didn't change but my traps varied about .5- .75mph. Wind does not account for Kiwon's trap speeds more than about .75mph.
Byron is a fast track no doubt. But by the same token I drove Jamie's car (stock 4th gen) and it wouldn't do more than 15.1 @ 92... |
yea i was consistently hitting traps of 94.x mph quite a few times. that 95mph surprised me as well.when are you guys planning on going back?

Kiwon i can't believe all these people are hating on your time i hit a 95mph trap ON MY FIRST TIME AT THE TRACK WITH JUST INTAKE AND FULL INTERIOR WITH SPARE AND JACK AS WELL and my track SUCKS! :( so don't hate...he's telling the truth...its very possible good job bro...keep it up :) |

hmm i should take my car to byron and see if i can run a 14...

Sorry, but I really doubt the technology Nissan puts into the VQ is such that a few "freaks" make it out the door. Tolerances are just too close. Before the 80s, there were probably factory freaks and factory duds due to limitations in production tolerance, but not today. Look at the dyno forum and tell me if there are any factory freaks out there because I don't see them. Driving is definately the key to good ETs, but when I see people pulling high 2.2+ 60 foots, it doesn't look the driver is that great. 2.2X 60 foots are good, but not along the marks of an excellent driver. Track prep also makes a difference. A low mph in relation to a low ET usually shows good traction and excellent shifting. A 14.7@92mph with a 2.1 60 foot would mean excellent driving and traction. A 14.7@95mph means poor traction and possibly slow shifting. I've run 14.4@99mph which shows my driving skills and traction off the line is poor. I admit it. I can't speak for others, but I'm not trying to take away from the ET/MPH people run on some of the quicker tracks. I'm just pointing out potential reasons to why they're so quick instead of having to listen to this "factory freak" crap. If a quick track was located near me, you'd best believe I'd be racing at it. Downhill, sea level, flux-capacitor, whatever. I don't care. We're all in it for the fun and lowest ET and highest MPH. I run at a track in Kansas City which isn't known for good times, but I really have no other choice. When I had my Z28, my best time was a 13.7@101mph with a 2.0 60 foot in cold weather. I went to HRP with the same mods and in warm weather and pulled off a 13.4@104mph with a 2.0 60 foot. Hmmmmmm...... Dave |

anything is possible. good job man! my st time at the track was suppose to be last friday, but i never made outin time to meet carvan upto HJ. Plus it was raned out, track closed:)
|
well i personally didnt see it as a bad thing when you guys were argueing so-to-speak about my times. I just saw more potential in the car. i had this car for about 5 months and this was the first time i really got to race it. hopefully i can improve my times.
guess thats what the org is here for.;) Kiwon |
Well my track is not on that list of fast tracks if i run a great time is my time going to be questioned and will my track be added next to the list:shock:
my track is at 1500ft |

Dave for example, the track i go to...well...it sucks i did go on the last day it was open so it probably wasn't prepped properly, and it was very cold, but there was NO traction. i'd seriously like to see these guys get a 2.2 60' at this track  i just compare to other maxima's that go to the same track :) |
