17"s or 18"s???
I'm thinking about getting new set of rims since i have nasty GXE rim, but i don't know which one i should go for. i was looking for 18"s but they seemed to be much expensive than 17"s. When i look at 17"s, they looks like little small for maxima. what do you guys think? should i go for 17"s or 18"s??? ![Confused](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
any brand recommandation??

most people will tell you 18's...but it all depends...for me, money is a rarity so i'm only going for 17's...but i'll definately be happy with those over my honeycombs. lower it and they look decent. all depends what you feel like spending. if you're questioning that much, go for 18's.

Where I live, the roads are absolutely horrible.
I've bent 5 rims in the 1.5 years I've had my 18's...never any really major bends, but enough to throw my alignment off and make a really nice "whump whump whump" noise.
Just annoying - wishing I went with 17's.
But if you live somewhere with nice roads (Like Phoenix or something) - then 18's are fine.

it's tempting to always go bigger...

17's are a compromise between looks, handling, and acceleration. 18's are more for look. I remember a thread like this a while back, and this is what most of us agreed on. Budget or not. I have 17's, and they look good, but I wanted better looks and maybe better handling, so I went with 18's, they should be on their way right now
BTW, I got 4 18x8's 24lbs ea. for $700

We just went through the same exercise. We settled on the compromise like was stated earlier. 17s.
With a 17 x 8 and 235/45-17s we get the lower look, keep the speedometer accurate, (which you can also do with the proper sized 18s) and there is just enough sidewall to keep the ride nice. The 235/45-17 means that the width of the tire is 235 mm, the ratio of tire height (from the bead bottom to the tread) is .45 of the width(height/width). The tire guys tell me that 63 - 76 mm of sidewall, or more, is best for a nice ride.
However the 18s do look nice.
