starting problem!! new high-torque starter? from nissan???
ok guys this is the deal im having, it's the same freaking problem again. just cranks but doesn't fire up(sounds like timing is off but start up at like 8 turns).
I brought it 2 nissian cause my car just wouldn't start anymore and they said they added a ground from my motor 2 my trans and said my MAS sensor was 2 close 2 my battery(have INJEN intake)and re-adjusted my crank sensor (pos). they said its 80% better but not 100% 2 make it 100% i need 2 get a high TQ starter with more teeth(means spins the crank faster). anyone have this problem with the starter.
ps: i have a autozone starter

Your problem is the crank sensor, not the starter. As they get old, their signal gets weak until one day your ECU cannot determine where top dead center is - (crank sensor REF) or where the crank shatf is in relation to the piston stroke - (crank sensor POS).
When these two sensors get weak, you have starting problems. Best is sometimes they don't throw codes if they fail before the car is started.
The crap about Nissan taking trannys out and cleaning the surfaces for better ground is complete B.S. Once the tranny is out, crank sensor REF is exposed. Cleaned off all the fine metal dust that collects on it brings it back to life and the car starts very smoothly again.
I went through this trouble shooting process with my buddies I30. Even Infiniti told us it was the tranny surface that was causing the no start condition. I didn't believe it. I Removed both crank sensors, cleaning them, discovered REF was bad but did not throw a code in the ECU. I replaced it and the car starts perfectly now. The tranny was never touched and ground wires were never added. Thank god I didn't follow Infiniti's advise, what a waste that would have been.
