How to launch(5speed)...
I'm going to the track this Friday with my new 96 SE 5speed. Now I've only been driving stick for a month now and am not sure how to launch it yet. Keep in mind, I have 48pound 17"rims/tires.
I was actually practicing the other night on a dead end street. I tried reving to 2k, letting go of the clutch as fast as I can and flooring it like 1/2 second later. But the rpm's just bog down to like 1k and ALMOST STALLS!
What are your techniques for the most effective launch?
What am I doing wrong?

Re: How to launch(5speed)...
You can't drop the clutch at such a low speed. If you're going to do that, you have to be fast with the gas. Use higher RPMs if you're going to drop the clutch. What you'll find is that you'll want to not fully engage the clutch initally. Use higher RPMS, don't fully engage cluch. Use the clutch to control wheel spin. You fully engage the clutch when you feel the wheel spin is under control. You really have to feel it. Hard to describe. But at least you have an idea now.

I come off the line at almost idle. i give it like 10% throttle, ease up on the clutch. when clutch engages i begin to give it the gas trying not to break the tires loose. I tried all the 2k, 3k, 4k clutch dumps, but it'll either bog down or spin the tires.
I don't know if I drive my car correctly, but i'm pretty happy with my 14.9 ET's. I know a lot of others on the org are faster, but that's pretty decent for our crappy track here in hawaii.
BTW, I have a 97 5spd w/60k miles and stock clutch. only have pop charger intake. rest of car is stock.
