CEL at 85k

The wife tells me that she got a 'service engine soon' light come on today. She says it seems to be running just fine. The car, a '98, has just under 85k miles on it. Any thoughts?

Its not that big of deal to check the codes. Alot better than going to a stealership to get it checked. But it could turn into a big deal if you leave it there without knowing what caused it.
