Aftermarket PCV Valve?

I've done all of the required maintenance on my 97 SE (84K) except replace the original PCV valve. My local Nissan dealer sells the part for about $11 and has to order it. Instead of waiting, I'm thinking about getting it from Pep Boys or Autozone. Are there any disadvantages with getting an aftermarket PCV valve from one of these stores?

You should be fine with aftermarket.

Re: Re: Aftermarket PCV Valve?

I just bought a Purolator pvc valve from Advance and it was completely different than what I ended up pulling out of the Max. I think its part number was like pv1058 (I looked it up in the stores book then online at pureoil.com; it was the right number). It had threads and was just a completely different size/shape. I don't know if it was packaged wrong because it was the last one at the store. The Max's valve just pulls out, no screwing. Anyway, I ended up going to an Auto Zone and found a Deutsch(sp?) valve that look like my old one and it worked. I called Purolator and they were not much help explaining what happened but the told me I had the right part for my car.

Was this job a b**ch for anyone else to do?
I felt like i did it wrong, even though it got done.
I got the feeling I shouldn't have been bending the
metal tubing...

bending the metal tubing
That didn't sound like anything I had to do when I changed it. Hope you bent it back..

I did. It's cool.
My prob. was that the rubber tubing was too short/not flexible
enough to remove it without bending the metal tubing.

Rather than bend the tubing I took out the bolts holding the tubing!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!
God I suck.
Thank god I haven't done any real damage.
I'm ashamed to admit that it took me 4 tries to even FIND the PCV
valve. My Chilton's manual has a pic that points to it and it's on
the wrong side of the engine block!!!

I know, Chilton has it in the wrong place. I just bought the new one from the dealer and looked for a match.
