K&N filter question for anyone who made their own CAI
K&N filter question for anyone who made their own CAI
i'm using this faq, http://www.drwebdesign.com/mymaxima/upperintake.html, to make my own CAI. what is the part# of the K&N air filter that will work best with it? thanks
If you're not particular about the K&N brand, APC makes a cone filter that has a rechargeable element called the APC Intimidator, available at many auto parts stores. Any cone filter with a 3" inner diameter base will work.
I bought the APC filter for about $20 and then bought the K&N cleaning/recharging kit.

Here are some directions on how to install the Price Racing unit... which is pretty much the same thing as the Bomz. However, the Bomz does not come with the template used here. But, it's probably not really needed, as the piping can be installed first, and the location of the hole can then be 'eyeballed'. note... The page below is NOT mine. The fellow at the site gets the credit.

I purchased mine from ebay, and it looks just like this one. It seems like a nice setup with powder coated 3" aluminum tubing. It's only drawbacks are the plastic MAF adapter and generic filter... but the piping is worth the $50. Hey, if you don't want to use the cold air part, it can be left off and you'll have a hybrid intake. The metal sleeves for the connectors are cool too.

I made my own MAF adapter out of a piece of 3/16" steel and a short piece of 3" exhaust tubing using a welder, grinder and drill. I also plan to purchase a K&N filter #RE-0930 that measures 6" wide at the mounting flange, is 6" long, and is 4-5/8" in diameter at the end. I'll also be using a pre-cleaner to shield the filter from road debris and keep the bigger stuff out of it. It's part #22-8033PK
The filter costs $39.26 and the pre-cleaner is $15.99 at http://www.4filters.com They charge only $5 shipping on any order.
Good Luck!
