Air hissing sound when removing gas cap

When I remove the gas cap at a fill-up, I always hear a noticeable hissing sound of air rushing in (or fumes rushing out) of the tank.

Is this normal?

Yes, your tank is pressurized.

i was thiking about this, if there is a vaccuum in your tank wouldnt it cause the fuel pump to work harder as the vaccuum increases, so basically wouldnt the greater the vaccuum mean the less horsepower?

no, the fuel pump is submerged in fuel not air.

So is it a vacuum or pressurized above ambient air pressure?

the gas evaporates in the tank creating a vacuum effect when u open the gas cap.
