People With 99.5

I am trying to find a FSTB that fits my car, but no other 4th gen strut bars seem to fit, i was wondering what some FSTB some people with 99.5 max's have, because that damn little bracket is there....i know stillens fit, but i have yet to find a decent deal on them .....and i don't want to hack that piece off, so if anyone can help me out it'd be greatly appeciated

i just got a normal fstb, and cut off the bracket.
what a hassle that was, especially with the clutch fluid line in the way.

Any 95 - 99 (4th gen) $35 strut bar from Ebay will fit your 99.5 model. Don't waste your $$$$ on a special bar for you car. Cut the bracket off with a hack saw. Takes about 2 minutes and the saw costs you 5 bucks if you don't have one.

Courtesy nissan use to have them

the bottom of this page seems to point the 99 at the 2000-2003 bar
http://www.courtesyparts.com/energys...on/maxima.html

I'd call them and ask what fits

in that case what did you post for?
seems you know what your options are, and you don't want to do one of them.
the only option left is to get a stillen bar

i have a 99.5 and i had this same question a few months ago..

i saw it wasnt doing jack, so i ripped it off, and put the cheapest strut bar on ebay on it, and thats that.

no other option that i know of, i didnt even know stillens would not interfere with the bracket.

just rip the bracket off, repaint that area, it looks like a weld spot anyways, dont worry about it.

99.5 = SE-Limited, and there's a small, unused bracket on the left strut tower that blocks the FSTB from mounting. I cut mine off too, sprayed a little black spray paint, and no one would ever know the difference unless they specifically looked for it.

I have a Courtesy FSTB that fits without cutting off the bracket. However, I don't have any pictures of it since I always seem to take pictures after taking it off (changing plugs, installed VI, etc.).

i saw your engine bay with only 2 02 sensors, not 4, so your not cali spec, so i don't think your a 99.5, i don't know if all 99's have the bracket though, i don't think so

to set things straight:

I had this problem too. Get either a courtesy or a stillen FSTB. Those are your only 2 definite options w/o cutting off the bracket. You can try getting a 2000 bar, which i was told by courtesy will fit. The only problem you may have is hood clearance. That's why if you don't want to cut off the bracket, your only choice is to spend more money.

I have a '99 SEL. I have the Courtesey FSTB and did NOT have to cut off the bracket, nor did I have any problems with hood clearance.

When I bought my FSTB I thought Stillen was the only place that made Max products so I paid ~$150 for a FSTB.

[justifying $150] But yeah, it does fit without modification. It's pretty too. [/justifying $150]

You could have just bought two regular nuts to replace the acorn style nuts and you wouldn't have to return anything.

John, if the custommaxima bar is the same as the courtesy bar, it should fit. If you find the acorn nuts don't fit where the bar attaches to the bracket, go to your local hardware store and buy some regular nuts.

Have a 99 GXE cali spec, and had that nasty huge bracket there. (I don't know if that makes me a 99.5 or not.) Just dremeled it off and put on one of the ebay ones. No problem. Very good use of $30. (Pics at http://members.cardomain.com/gmt_max)

no, because when i went to torque it, the socket would not have fit over the nuts. On top of which, there are clearance issues with (i'm not sure if this is the correct name) the end bolt on the FSTB itself, when you go to tighten the upper strut nuts.

And you're right, it wasn't neccessary to return it. But, i got tired of getting the wrong part, and then telling the guy the same thing i told him the last time, waiting 2 weeks, and getting the wrong part again.

And i realized that whay should i pay $60 + shipping and have probs, when i can just return it, and buy it cheaper off an org member.
